CHIMING OF THE HOUR

WELCOME/ANNOUNCEMENTS Dr. Jan Davis

OPENING VOLUNTARY Prelude in Classical Style Gordon Young

Sarah Johnson, flute & Andrew Baker, oboe

* CALL TO WORSHIP Dr. Steve Pulliam

Leader: O God, who created us in love,
People: create us anew in love as we worship you.
Leader: O Jesus Christ, who redeemed this world in love,
People: reclaim our hearts as we worship you.
Leader: O Holy Spirit, who moves this world
toward its God-appointed end,
People: move within us as we worship you. Amen.

* OPENING HYMN 127 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA
1. O Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.
2. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.
3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.

* AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
* GLORIA PATRI 70 MEINEKE
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

CALL TO PRAYER Dr. Steve Pulliam

When we gather to praise God,
we remember that we are people who have preferred our wills to his.
Accepting his power to become new persons in Christ,
let us now go to God in prayer.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER
Loving God, we confess before you that our lives are not always pure and holy,
apart from the cleansing we receive through Christ’s love. And we confess that too
often Christ is hidden in us by our own actions. Open our eyes, Lord, that we may
see you in the ones we say we love. Open our ears, that we may be quicker to listen
than to speak. Open our mouths, to speak good rather than evil. Open our hands in
generosity and help us let go of clenched fists. Open our hearts so that we may
always seek your love and infinite grace.
Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

* CLOSING HYMN 593 Here I Am, Lord HERE I AM , LORD
1. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save.
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.
2. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame,
I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide, till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.
