COMPETITIONS

Louis Smadbeck Composition


Description: Recognizes the best new musical work written each year by a student.
The entries are judged by a faculty committee, and the prize is awarded at a special
concert each spring. This prize was established by the late Louis Smadbeck, parent of
Paul '78, M.M.'82.

Richard K Joseph Composition


Description: Awarded in alternating years to an Ithaca College student or outside
competitor judged to have written the best composition that year for the piano (even-
numbered years) or saxophone odd-numbered years). The prize was endowed in
2008 by the family of Richard K. Joseph '48 MUSB, M.S. '53.
Department/Area/Contact: Composition faculty & piano area/sax faculty depending
upon year.
