"After the initial release of
"[Dictionary]Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th Edition.MythTW.iso",
I've received some reports that the iso version does not work.
I then started testing all the image creating mechaisms
provided by Alcohol 120% (version 1.95 b. 2802) and
after hours of repeatedly installation and testing,
this is the one version that has been working all the time.
The working release includes 3 files,
[Dictionary] Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th Ed.MythTW.mdf
[Dictionary] Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th Ed.MythTW.mds
[Dictionary] Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 7th Ed.MythTW.txt
To get this release work, you can either
1. mount with Daemon tools or virtual drives provided by Alcohol 120% or
2. burn it with Alcohol with Securerom *New(4.x/5.x) setting and
enable the RMPS emulation provided by Alcohol/Daemon Tools
when using the CD
Hope you all enjoy it.
Myth 4/30/2005
*note1: Please delete the iso release and stop sharing on the network. TKS
*note2: about Securerom 4.8 or later please read the link attached
at the buttom, u can further google search to know more about it.
I'm aware there's twinpeaks trick to copy the securerom 4.8
protected CD without emulation, however, as it would not work
on all machines. I would release this emulation version first.

zupload is not the best choice
actually, now everyone is setting up a Company to get money.
it s hot business topic on the internet setting up, rapidshare like companies an
d get money.
Why not to remain to rapidshare?
It s RELIABLE.
Furthermore, can you imagine, I got a premium account at Megaupload and the down
loading speed is less that the speed i use with out being logged in??
So just to remain to RAPIDSHARE, until someone to prove that it s as Reliable as
Rapidshare is!
Posted By: RaduS Date: 14 Sep 2005 17:50:23
I agree, Rapidshare may suck with all the wait one hour thing, but at least it's
better than megaupload, or some other wannabes.
Thanks for the dictionary guys, do you have any french ones?
Posted By: vh Date: 14 Sep 2005 18:17:08
moreover the splitting in 23mb pasts also sucks as you effectively waste at leas

With all the magazines, files, and ebooks I want to download from this great sit
e, rapidshare is not a practical choice for a free-loader like me because it wil
l be impossible to download them all in a day and the next day will have another
load-full of goodies.
Thanks for the dictionary, moamenxp2002. But if you or some other good soul can
upload the files in another rapidshare-wannabe, I'd appreciate it very much. I'm
sure rapidshare also started as buggy and slow before the likes of us made them
famous and have lots of ads to buy faster net connections and hardware and bigg
er HD space. Why not give other wannabes the chance to grow. We won't find a goo
d server if we only stick our heads to good old reliable rapidshare. Information
is not a monopoly. And so is access to it. But I guess you all know that alread
y. Thanks for reading. My respect goes to all of you.

People from different parts of the world would have different problems with down

There is no need to wait one hour between RapidShare downloads (except when you'
ve got a static ip. And even then, it might be possible to use several different
proxies.
When you have a line with changing IPs on each connect, then simply disallow Coo
kies from RapidShare (in the browser settings) and diconnect/connect after each
download and DL as fast as you like ;-)

Thanks, moamenxp2002 , for an excellent English Dic. ! After I downloaded all th

n) without problem.
When I started the program, it asked for the original disk . So I burned the ima
ge file .mdf & mds to a CD ( about 627 MBs ), using the program "ISOpen 4.0.356"
. When I started the program with the CD inserted, it said it needed the origin
al CD !!? My question is :
_Is the CD protected ?
_Please advise how to fix this problem . Thanks.

ALL
PLS, read ALL the comments befrore posting a question. I have not tested the Dic
tionary yet, but I will download it even with my slow dial-up connection.
That's what I found un the commens above:
The disk is Securom protected, which means that we MUST run it with appropriate
emulation (alcohol 120% will do that), we MUST have TWO files - .mdf & .mds (see
the comment by thudam on the 1st page), which are disk contents and its physica
l signature and there is little sense burning it onto a CD, because we will stil
l need emulation. So we just mount the image as a virtual disk with Alcohol and
be happy.

Finally, I fixed the problem and were able to read the dictionary on my PC :-) .
Here are my updated comments :
1) Last time, I extracted the .mdf file onto the hard-disc and installed the pro
gram from there. Most likely , this caused the problem .
2) I burnt 2 CDs from the image files .mdf & .mds using "Alcohol 120% v1.9.5.310
5" and "ISOpen 4.0.356" , respectively . They were exactly the same size (607 mb
s) .
3) I installed the program from the CD, selecting the full version ( it took abo
ut 500 mbs on the HD ) . Now, I can read the book without any problem on the PC
4) Please note that each time I started the program, I saw a pop-up saying the p
rogram failed to start because it could not find the file "vafxu.dll" and sugges
ted to reinstall the program ! I just closed the pop-up 2-3 times and the progra
m started !!
This "vafxu.dll" issue ,apparently, is not unique but occured in many other prog
rams ( i.e. Quick time, Adobe softwares , as found in posts around the net with
a Google search ) . If you know a way to get rid of this minor irritance, please
post your solution . Thanks

it is unlikely that many of you will get this to work. (some maybe)
i would be very interested for [thudam] to explain how this worked for him, whet
her he stuck to the described burning procedure, and how the RMPS emulation allo
wed him to install the data.
just burning the cd, and then trying to install will not pass 5% because it is c
onstantly re-routing; and using the emulation method gives the same scenario, bu
t with the HD in an endless loop instead of the CD drive.
any ideas?

Hi, guys!
I downloaded and installed this dictionary successfully on two machines with win
XPSP1. Do not burn this image to a disk. Extract the archive into a folder, use
Daemon Tools 3.47 ( http://www.daemon-tools.cc ) to mount the image to a virtual
drive. Make sure you enabled RPMS emulation (enabling all emulation options als
o works). Install the dictionary from virtual drive. Choose FULL installation. U
nmount the image and just put it into your archive.
ATTENTION: British pronounciation files were not copied during installation. Dir
ect copying from the mounted image also failed. So I used UltraISO to open the u
nmounted image and manually extract the files from datapronuk to C:Program Files
OxfordOALD7datapronuk . That's it!
Run the dictionary - it's fully functional :-)
Sound problems should not appear if you installed the included quicktime codec (
v6.5.1). If you have quicktime ALTERNATIVE installed - that's the problem. I hav
e not tested it with QT 7.

I downloaded all 24 pieces of .rar files but when I tried to extract
them into one folder, WinRar said the 1. and 24. pieces were broken. I
used Winrar again and it repaired these archives.
Using Daemon Tools with its SecuRom emulation option ON, I mounted the
file and installed the dictionary. During the installation, I was asked
if I wanted to install QuickTime; since I had the latest version of
QickTime, I skipped that step. However, later I realized that it had
installed its QuickTime plugins into 'C:Program
FilesOxfordOALD7plugins' but these plugins were older than the ones
I already had which caused sound problem. To fix this, I copied the
newer plugins of QuickTime from 'C:Program FilesQuickTimePlugins'
and overwrote the ones in 'C:Program FilesOxfordOALD7plugins'. This
solved the sound problem.
Strangely, the installation process didn't/couldn't install some stuff.
These are...
- C:Program FilesOxfordOALD7dataalphaListGuide.skn.Case
- C:Program FilesOxfordOALD7dataautoCompListGuide.skn.Case
- and some parts in 'C:Program FilesOxfordOALD7datapronuk'
foldeer.
To fix this problem, I used UltraISO to extract the content and just
copied&pasted the relevant folders and files. I used UltraISO because I
could not directly get the stuff I needed from mounted image file.
Note: You will find a 'SecuROM' folder in your 'My Documents' folder.
Do not delete it. The Oxford application needs it to run.
That's all! You've got the great Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary,
fully working now. :)

INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR OALD7 (UPDATED):
I downloaded all 24 pieces of .rar files but when I tried to extract them into o

QuickTime from 'C:Program FilesQuickTimePlugins' and overwrote the ones in 'C:P
rogram FilesOxfordOALD7plugins'. This solved the sound problem.
Strangely, the installation process didn't/couldn't install some stuff. These ar

- C:Program FilesOxfordOALD7dataalphaListGuide.skn.Case

get the stuff I needed from mounted image file.
Note: You will find a 'SecuROM' folder in your 'My Documents' folder. Do not del
ete it. The Oxford application needs it to run.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
A problem has been identified when installing early pressings of the CD-ROM on m
achines running Windows 98 or Windows ME in conjunction with certain antivirus s
oftware and firewalls. The installation appears to be successful but the OALD 7
Compass program fails to launch with no error message given, or with a message "
License data invalid".
Should you encounter this problem:
1. Download oald7.zip (4.5 megabytes) http://www.securom.com/support/customers/o
xford/oald7_t016/oald7.zip
2. Unzip oald7.zip to extract the oald7.exe program
3. Ensure your OALD 7 Compass CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive
4. Replace the old oald7.exe file on your computer (this is usually found in c:P
rogram FilesOxfordOALD7) with the new oald7.exe file you have downloaded
5 . You should now be able to run the OALD 7 Compass software
That's all! You've got the great Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, fully wor
