Election procedure followed in India: (i) For the purpose of election to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, the whole country is divided into doubtful areas known as constituencies. (ii) Electoral lists are prepared and updated before elections. (iii) The date of election is then announced by the Election Commission. (iv) For the convenience of the voters and to make the election system function. properly, every constituency is divided into many polling stations. (v) Announcement about the elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assembly is made by the President and the Governor, respectively.Afer this, the Election Commission announces the dates of filing the nomination papers. (vi) On a fixed day, the nomination papers are scrutinised, and those having some deficiencies are rejected and the names of the eligible candidates are announced. (vii) After the publication of the list of eligible candidates by the election officer, different political parties launch vigorous election campaigns in support of their candidates. (viii) On the election day, a public holiday is declared so that the voters can exercise their right to vote. (ix) After the voting gets over, on a fixed day, votes are counted and resuls are declared.
