MATERIALS: BOTANY SCOTTIE
skeins 6 7 7 8 8
"SHETLAND AND WOOL", 2 oz. skeins
KNITTING NEEDLES: 1 pair "Boye" Non-
Inflammable Needles, Size 7 -OR SIZE YOU
REQUIRE TO KNIT TO GAUGE GIVEN BELOW.
1 pair "Boye" Non-Inflammable Needles, Size 4 for
ribbing. "Boye" Non-Inflammable Hook, Size F
GAUGE: Size 7 Needles - 11 sts = 2 inches; 7 rows
= 1 inch
MEASUREMENTS FOR BLOCKING:
At bust line, buttoned inches 35 37 39 40 ½ 42 ½
Width of back at underarm inches 17 18 19 20 21
BACK - With size 4 needles, cast on sts 94 98 102 106 114
Row 1 - wrong side - K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to
end.
Row 2 - P 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end.
Repeat these 2 rows until 2 ins. from beg., end with
sts 0 0 2 2 0
row 2, increasing in last row
With Size 7 needles, work stockinette st - p 1 row, k 1
sts 94 98 104 108 114
row, on
until 12 ins. above ribbing, end with k row. Mark for
underarm.
Armholes - p 1 row.
Dec. row - K 2, k 2 tog., k to within 4 sts of end, slip,
sts 92 96 102 106 112
k and pass, k 2
Repeat last 2 rows times 10 11 12 13 14
Work even on sts 72 74 78 80 84
until measurement above marker is (end with k row) ins. 6 ¾ 7 7¼ 7½ 7¾
Shoulders - Bind off at beg. of each of next 2 rows sts 7 8 10 11 11
Bind off 8 sts at beg. of each of next 4 rows.
Place on holder for neck ribbing sts 26 26 26 26 30
Break yarn.
LEFT FRONT - With size 4 needles, cast on sts 50 54 58 58 62
Row 1 - wrong side - P 2, * k 2, P 2; repeat from * to
end.
Row 2 - K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.
Repeat these 2 rows until same number of rows as
ribbing on back, end with row 2, increasing in last sts 3 2 1 3 2

With size 7 needles work even in stockinette st on sts 53 56 59 61 64
until same length as back to armhole, end with k row.

Mark beg. of last row for underarm.


Armhole - Work 1 row even.
Dec. row - K 2, k 2 tog., k to end sts 52 55 58 60 63
Repeat last 2 rows times 10 11 12 13 14
Work even on sts 42 44 46 47 49
until armhole is same length as on back, end with p
row at armhole edge.
Shoulder - Bind off sts 23 24 26 27 27
finish row, place on holder for neck ribbing

Do not break yarn.
Mark position of 6 buttons evenly spaced on front
edge, having first button 1 in. from lower edge and
6th button 3 ins. below neck edge; 7th button will be
in neck ribbing.
RIGHT FRONT - With size 4 needles, cast on sts 50 54 58 58 62
Work ribbing same as left front until opposite first
marker for button, end on wrong side-front edge.
Buttonhole row - Work 3 sts, bind off 2 sts, work to
end. Cast on 2 sts over buttonhole in next row.
Continue to correspond to left front, repeating
buttonhole opposite markers, until same length as left
front to armhole, end with k row. Mark end of row
for armhole.
Armhole - Work 1 row even.
Dec. row - K to within 4 sts of end, slip, k and pass, k

Shoulder - Bind off sts 23 24 26 27 27

SLEEVES - With size 4 needles, cast on sts 44 44 48 48 52
Work k 2, P 2 ribbing for 3 ins.
Inc. row - K, increasing evenly spaced across row sts 5 8 8 12 12
With size 7 needles, continue stockinette st on sts 49 52 56 60 64
increasing 1 st each side every 8th row 11 times sts 71 74 78 82 86
Work even until 15 ins. above ribbing, end with k
row. Mark each side of last row.
Shape same as armholes of back sts 49 50 52 54 56
P 1 row after last dec. row.
Bind off 2 sts at beg. of each of next rows 4 4 2 2 0
Bind off 3 sts at beg. of each of next rows 0 0 2 2 4
Bind off 16 sts at beg. of each of next 2 rows.
Work even on remaining sts 9 10 10 12 12
for shoulder insert for ins. 4 4¼ 4½ 4¾ 4¾
end with k row. Place on holder for neck ribbing.
Break yarn.
Neck Ribbing - Beg. at right front edge, with size 4
sts 19 20 20 20 22
needle, take up from holder sts of front
right shoulder insert sts 9 10 10 12 12
back neck sts 26 26 26 26 30
left shoulder insert sts 9 10 10 12 12
left front sts 19 20 20 20 22
Work ribbing as on left front for 3, rows on sts 82 86 86 90 98
Repeat buttonhole in next 2 rows. Work 4 rows even. Bind off tightly in ribbing.
FINISHING - Sew edges of shoulder inserts to shoulder edges. Sew shaped edges of sleeves to
armhole edges from markers up with decs. matching; sew bound-off sts of sleeves to even part of
armhole edge. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Beg. at lower right front edge, from right side,
work 1 row slip st on front edge to top of neck ribbing. Work 1 row slip st on left front edge. Block.
Face front edges with grosgrain ribbon. Finish buttonholes with blanket st working through double
thickness.
