A MINI-LINK TN Network Element (NE) can, from a hardware and installation


point of view, be divided into two parts:

• Indoor part, see Section 1.2.2

• Outdoor part, see Section 1.2.3

From a functional and configuration point of view, an NE can be divided into the
following parts:

Basic Node The Basic Node holds the system platform providing traffic
and system control, such as traffic routing, multiplexing,
protection mechanisms and management functions.

It also provides traffic interfaces, PDH, SDH and Ethernet,


for connection to network equipment such as a radio base
station, ADM or LAN.

Finally, it includes indoor mechanical housing, power


distribution and cooling.
