Lessons:
ScoreS2Duo’s approach to music lessons is a combination of group and individual lessons.
The rational of this is to allow students to experience the joy and fun of learning an
instrument, be part of a structured ensemble performing regularly and participating in
Eisteddfods, competitions etc.

Individual lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minute durations on a weekly basis. These lessons
primarily focus on technique, repertoire, musicianship and creative skills.

Group lessons are 45 minutes in duration, and students are assigned to groups of 3 to 4,
based on age, ability level and scheduled availability.

Practicing:
Regular home practice is essential for success.

Short, daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week.
The most important time for students to practice is right after their weekly lesson, to solidify
what they have just learned.

Parental involvement in home practice is crucial for student success. Establish and stick to
a practice routine, and please see that practice time is without distractions. Minimum
practice times are required if students plan to play an external exam, see below.

Attendance:
Students are expected to attend scheduled weekly tuition for the semester. When you
register for lessons, your timeslot is reserved for you for the year. Please keep in mind that
the studio operates at full capacity and rescheduling missed lessons cannot be
guaranteed.

Any lessons missed by Ms van Rensburg due to illness or emergency will be rescheduled as
soon as possible.

Lesson times cannot be extended for students who arrive late.

No parents allowed in sessions / lessons. It distracts the student’s (and my) focus and a
working relationship needs to be established between me and the students without a
third party being present.

External Examinations and Eisteddfods

The following will apply to students wanting to enter for an external exam:

• Entries will be done as soon as all three pieces can be played, hands together / to
the end. No entries will be done before that level of knowledge is attained.
• The following is the minimum practice time required for each grade, and should be
added to the student’s daily schedule:
o Pre-Grade 1: 10 minutes per day = 70 minutes per week
o Grade 1: 15 minutes per day = 105 minutes per week
o Grade 2: 20 minutes per day = 140 minutes per week
o Grade 3: 30 minutes per day = 210 minutes per week
o Grade 4: 40 minutes per day = 280 minutes per week
o Grade 5: 1 hour per day = 7 hours per week
o Grade 6: 1,5 hours per day = 10,5 hours per week
o Grade 7: 2 hours per day = 14 hours per week
o Grade 8: 3 hours per day = 21 hours per week
o ATCL or equivalent: 4 hours per day = 28 hours per week

• With registration a deposit of R1800 is payable.

• The studio is operating at full capacity at all times, therefore it is expected that if
lessons are discontinued for any reason, written notice should be given at least 2
months in advance.
• If this 2 month notification is not given the deposit is not refundable.
• Fees are payable by the given due dates, in advance.
• Students will need to purchase their own examination books and music at times
during the year. Additional event fees may be required for festivals, competitions
and other performance events.
• Accompaniment (if needed) for above events will be included in the tuition fees.
