Conceptual Framework

The focal point of the study is to propose a program in the selected barangays of

Batangas City in order to prevent violence against women.

In order for the researchers to conduct the study, the following variables are

considered: socio-economic status of the barangays, risks/threats faced by women in

the barangays, assessment on the existing actions/programs of the barangay on and

issues/problems faced on the implementation of barangays’ actions and programs on

violence against women.

The researchers first identified the barangays’ socio-economic status. As defined

by American Psychological Association, socioeconomic status is the social standing or

class of an individual or group. It is often measured as a combination of education,

income, and employment. The study determines the socio-economic status by

identifying the male and female population, number and population of household and

average household size and annual income per barangay.

Risks/Threats faced by women in the barangays were also determined. This is to

know what kind of violence they've been subjected to. Violence is still a worldwide

mystery that exists as a hidden problem in every country. Violence against women

occurs when violating the human rights of women. If a woman is slapped, shaken,

beaten, pushed, pulled hair, thrown objects, the woman is exposed to physical violence.

If a woman was sexually harassed, treated as an object of sex, made demeaning and

sexually suggestive remarks or forced to commit sexual acts against her will, then she

was exposed to sexual violence. On the other hand, if a woman feels insulted to make
her feel bad about herself, harassment, verbally abused, then she has been exposed to

emotional violence. With regard to economic violence, if a woman feels that her partner

is depriving her of getting a job, household expenses and children's expenses, access

to family income, then women are abused economically.

After the identification of the risk/threats present in the vicinity of women, the

researchers will have an assessment on the actions and programs implemented in the

selected barangays. Barangay is mandated by national government to holistically

address the prevention of Violence against women through intensified collaboration and

coordination. The researchers will list all the actions and programs that the barangay

takes to prevent violence against women in order to evaluate the existing actions and

programs. The respondents will respond by assessing how satisfied they are with the

programs set up to prevent violence against women. This part is crucial in the course of

the study as the results from here will determine whether or not the barangay does a

good job of supporting women's needs against violence. The evaluation will be based

on women's satisfaction level.

Identifying the issues / problems that the respondents met in implementing the

actions and programs of the barangays on VAW trails it. These include the issues /

problems affecting the barangay's effectiveness of existing actions and programs. The

results from here will be used to determine what needs to be addressed in the barangay

to empower and enhance women's safety and security.

The researchers will administer the study with respect to the process through a

survey questionnaire. The questionnaire of the survey is divided into four major parts.
The first part includes the informed consent to request permission from the respondents

to conduct the study. The second part lists all the risks / threats in physical violence,

sexual violence, emotional violence, and economic violence faced by women in the

barangay. Assessment of actions and programs in which respondents will also assess

their satisfaction rates for these actions and program will be placed on the third part of

the survey questionnaire. The last part is meant to identify the issues / problems that the

respondents have met about implementing the actions and programs of barangays on

VAW. The researchers will interpret and analyze the results of the study administered

through survey questionnaire to produce an output which in this case is a proposed

barangay program in this study that will help boost the safety and security of women.

The proposed program named “Women’s Empowerment Program” will help

prevent violence against women in the barangay. It includes a variety of women's

activities aligned with the study results. It aims to address the issues / problems in the

barangay that affect the proper response and handling of VAW cases. The researchers

are doing this as an additional means of protecting women from threats that lead to

violence. The program will be developed through consolidated efforts coming from the

people in the community and all government officials involved in the program.

As for the feedback of the study, The proposed program has shown how it

responds to the barangay women's issues, problems, risks / threats. Because of the

livelihood activities included in the program, it could increase the socio-economic status

of barangays in terms of their income. It could protect women from various risks /

threats resulting in violence through security strategies included in the program. It could

also increase women's satisfaction with the barangay's actions / programs in addressing
violence against women through the recreational activities included in the program. The

program is the answer and solution to the questions / problems that the respondents

have met about implementing the actions and programs of barangays on violence

against women.
