KALOTSAV 2014 – Music Group

“D for Diverse” by the Good Earth Musicians

The last few years have witnessed an improving musical culture here at Good Earth School. This led
to coining of the phrase the ‘Good Earth Musicians’ or in short, the ‘GEMs’! These musicians of
Good Earth are going to do something they have never done before. Tonight they perform for all of
you a single 25 minute long, progressive musical exploration, as an attempt to transcend regional,
cultural and tonal boundaries in music. The piece is called “D for Diverse”. ‘D’ because it is in the
key of D; and ‘diverse’ because it covers several ragas and talas and a variety of musical genres like
the New Age Classic, the Indian Classical, the Western Classical, a touch of Hindustani, the
challenging Acapella and the irresistible Blues!

What has been most exciting for these musicians, apart from the fun they had composing, arranging
and learning all this music over the last 3 weeks, is the very rare combination of instruments they are
performing for you tonight – the western Violin, the Veena, the Bass, the Piano, the Sitar, Electric
and Acoustic Guitars, Mridangam, Ghatam, and a variety of percussion! The grand finale of the
piece and of this evening is a surprise and will be a real treat to the ears and the eyes! Ladies and
Gentlemen, presenting to you, as they like to call themselves, the ‘GEMs of Good Earth’!
