2. ONLINE INITIAL REGISTRATION

In an effort to curb the transmission of COVID19, UM will be conducting online registration

for all candidates who have received the offer letter and wish to register for admission to
Semester 1, Session 2020/2021. Therefore, candidates do not need to present themselves for
the registration process. However, candidates only need to do online activation for registration
and the candidates will be registered automatically once payment of the fees is made through
the Maya portal beginning 5 October 2020. The guidelines on how to activate the candidature
will be available at https://maya.um.edu.my/ starting 5 October 2020.

All international candidates are required to apply for Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL)
through EMGS. They will only be allowed to activate their registration once their eVAL
application status reached 32% (IM14U - Document ready for submission to Immigration).

However, no eVAL approval will be issued by the Immigration Department for new
international applicant due to Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order restriction.
Instead, EMGS will issue EMGS Approval Letter that will enable candidate to register online.
The EMGS Approval Letter is an assurance that EMGS has vetted the application and the
student has met the minimum academic requirements needed to pursue their intended course.
Kindly note that students can only be allowed to enrol and attend online classes once the
EMGS Approval Letter is issued.

STUDENT PASS AND DEPENDENT PASS

As the Immigration Department will not be processing eVAL and Student Pass for new
international students until further notice therefore, you are NOT ALLOWED to enter
Malaysia or to bring your dependent for registration until after the eVAL has been approved.

EMGS will only proceed to submit the application to the Malaysian Immigration Department
once the Malaysian Immigration department begins processing eVAL approvals for new
students. The students will then be subjected to the relevant security vetting process and the
eVAL approval will be at the discretion of the Immigration Department.

Once the students arrive in Malaysia, they are also required to attend the mandatory Post
Arrival Medical Screening which may include additional guidelines according to the situation
of the Covid-19 pandemic. If the student passes the medical screening, the institutions will be
required to submit the student’s passport to the Immigration Department and only then
receive their student pass. The issuance of a student pass is also based on the Immigration
Department’s discretion.

3. IMPLEMENTATION OF STUDIES FOR THE COURSES (TEACHING AND

LEARNING ONLINE)

Malaya (UM) will implement a comprehensive online teaching and learning approach
commencing from Semester I, 2020/2021 Academic Session until further notice. Further info
on this matter will be announced by the respective faculties/ academies/ centres to each of
