Welcome!
Greetings Students & Parents! My name is Andres Fils- Aime and I am a
math teacher at Shepard International Baccalaureate Magnet Middle School. I
was born in the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. This is where I discovered my
appreciation for mathematics. However, Math did not always come easy to me. In
fact, I had to work very hard in order to pass Geometry. Once I worked through
the challenges of Geometry, I realize math was a subject that one truly had to
study in order to truly understand.

Originally, I worked with the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice

serving at-risk youth. I always wanted to work with youth but after working with
at-risk students in the Juvenile Justice system for four years, I learned that I
could better serve youth working as a teacher. Becoming a middle grade math
teacher seemed like the obvious and perfect career choice for me because I enjoy
working with youth and love math!

To prepare for the great responsibility of being a teacher, I attended North

Carolina Central University, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Middle
Grade Education with a concentration in Mathematics.

In the future, I plan to pursue a Masters in Mathematics.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your students in the
upcoming weeks. It is my goal to provide all students with an
educationally, yet challenging and fun experience in the
classroom. I’m sure we will have many wonderful experiences and
opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead.

Go Panthers!
