PEI Finance/ Insurance/ Real Estate/ Leasing Sector - 2011

Definition:
Since 2006, the financial sector has grown rapidly on PEI. Finance is grouped with real estate,
insurance and leasing as a service-producing sector.

Major Canadian firms such as Ceridian and Invesco (AIM Trimark), Atelka, and Virtual Agent
Services have established offices in Prince Edward Island. Ceridian deals in payroll management
and human resource development while Invesco (AIM Trimark) oversees the global fund
management sector. Atelka and Virtual Agent Services both undertake financial and customer
srevice functions for a number of companies.

Small and medium-sized bookkeeping, collection services and accounting companies are
flourishing on PEI. The Summerside Tax Centre and Canada Revenue Agency have been
actively recruiting.

Number of people employed on PEI:

According to the Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey for October 2010, 2,400 people are
employed in this sector. This number does not include accountants and bookkeepers.

Working conditions are diverse, demand for employees is high, unemployment is low and
income potential increases with an employee’s experience.
