Mathematics
General Instructions:
(ii) The question paper consists of 31 question divided into five section A, B, C, D and E.
Section-A comprises of 4 question of 1 mark each, Section-B comprises of 6 question of 2
marks each, Section-C comprises of 8 question of 3 marks each and Section-D comprises of
10 questions of 4 marks each. Section E comprises of two questions of 3 marks each and 1
question of 4 marks from Open Text theme.
SECTION-A
1. Find the ratio of surface area and volume of the sphere of unit radius.
i.e., 3 : 1
2. In a frequency distribution, the mid-value of a class is 10 and the width of the class is
6. Find the lower limit of the class.
Ans.
4. If two adjacent sides of a kite are 5cm and 7cm, find its perimeter.
So, the sides of the given kite are 5cm, 5cm, 7cm, 7cm
SECTION-B
When x =1 = 3
When x =-1 = 6
∴ Two solution of the given equation are (1, 3), (-1 ,6)
6. Draw the graph of the equation represented by the straight line which is parallel to
the x – axis and 3 units above it.
Ans. Any straight line parallel to x – axis is given by y = a, where ‘a’ is the distance of the line
from the x – axis.
7. Prove that the line of centres of two intersecting circles subtends equal angles at the
two points of intersection.
Ans. Let two circles with respective centers A and B intersect each other at points C and D.
AC = AD =
BC = BD =
AB = AB [Common]
8. If L be any Point on AB and the area of rectangle ABCD is 100 square cm. Find area of
= square cm
=50 square cm
Ans.
10. Mean of 50 observations was found to be 80.4. But later on, it was discovered that 96
was misread as 69 at one place. Find the correct mean.
80.4 =
=4020
=4047
SECTION-C
x = 15
12. The cost of a toy horse is same as that of cost of 3 balls. Express this statement as a
linear equation in two equation in two variables. Also, draw its graph.
Ans. Let the cost of toy horse be Rs x and cost of one ball be Rs y.
x = 3y … (i)
For graph,
∴ x = 3(1) = 3
∴ x = 3(2) = 6
∴ x = 3(3) = 9
x 3 6 9
y 1 2 3
P Q R
Now draw a graph taking P(3, 1), Q(6, 2) and R(9, 3) which is given below.
In , we have
In , we have
14. A cylinder and a cone have equal heights and equal radii of their bases. If their
curved surface areas are in the ratio 8 : 5. Show that the ratio of radius to height of each
is 3 : 4.
15. Two hemispherical domes are to be painted as shown in the given figure. If the
circumferences of the bases of the domes are 17.6 cm and 70.4 cm respectively, then
find the cost of painting at the rate of Rs10 per cm .
49.28 + 788.48
= Rs. 8377.6
16. The capacity of a closed cylindrical vessel of height 1 m is 15.4 litres. How many
square metres of metal sheet would be needed to make it?
r = 0.07m
17. A class consists of 50 students out of which 30 are girls. The mean marks scored by
girls in a test is 73 (out of 100) and that of boys is 71. Determine the mean score of the
whole class.
Number of workers 38 27 86 46 3
If a person is selected at random, find the probability that the person is:
(ii) P (person is under 40 years) = P (person having age 20 to 29 years) + P(person having age
30 to 39 years)
SECTION-D
19. Construct a triangle ABC in which BC = 8 cm, and AB - AC= 3.5 cm.
Ans.
Steps of Construction
(ii) Construct .
Justification
AD =AC
Now, BD = 3.5 cm
⇒ AB - AD = 3.5 cm
⇒ AB - AC = 3.5 cm
Ans.
Steps of Construction
Justification
YA = YX
ZB =ZX
Now, AB = AY + YZ + ZB
AB = XY + YZ + ZX
In , we have
In XBZ, we have
21. If two circles intersect at two points, prove that their centres lie on the
perpendicular bisector of the common chord.
Ans. Given: Two circles, with centres O and O’ intersect at two points A and B. AB is the
common chord of the two circles and OO’ is the line segment joining the centres of the two
circles. Let OO' intersect B at P.
OO’ = OO’(Common)
(CPCT)
i.e.,
OP = OP (Common)
(Proved above)
AP = BP (CPCT)
And (CPCT)
22. Show that the diagonals of a parallelogram divide if into four triangles of equal
area.
Ar (ADC) = ar (BCD)
Hence proved
23. The ratio of girl and boys in a class is 1: 3. Set up an equation between the students
of a class of 40 students from the graph.
On cross multiplication,
3x – y … (i)
Or
3x – y =0
3x = y
A B C
x 10 20 -10
y 30 60 -30
∴ 3(10) = y
30 = y
3(20) = y
3(- 10) = y
- 30 = y
From the graph when total number of students in the class is 40.
⇒ x + y = 40
x = 40 – y
3(40 – y) = y
120 – 3y = y
120 = 4y
30 = y
Ans. Let r1cm and r2 cm can be the inner and outer radii respectively of the pipe

25. The surface area of a sphere of radius 5 cm is five times the curved surface area of a
cone of radius 4 cm. Find the height and volume of the cone.
length = 5 cm
Now,

Volume of cone
(Approximately)
26. Two solid spheres made of the same metal have masses 5920 g and 740 g,
respectively. Determine the radius of the larger sphere, if the diameter of the smaller
sphere is 5 cm.
Ans. Let r and R be the radii of the smaller and larger spheres respectively.
