RESEARCH PROPOSAL

TITLE: Interest generation in course

INTRODUCTION: Interest is a powerful motivational process that energizes learning,
guides academic and career trajectories, and is essential to academic success. It can describe
two distinct experiences: an individual’s momentary experience of being captivated by an
object as well as more lasting feelings that the object is enjoyable and worth further
exploration.  Interest is, therefore, both a psychological state characterized by increased
attention, effort, and affect, experienced in a particular moment (situational interest), as well
as an enduring predisposition to reengage with a particular object or topic over time
(individual interest). In our research we try to determine whether the course instructor is
responsible for the Interest generation in the course, which is related to the relationship
between variables like, students’ interest in the course, instructor being solely responsible for
creating interest, teaching methods, classmate, class room environment and technology.

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Should Interest for the course be generated by the course
instructor?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESEARCH: To find out the methods an instructor can opt, to
make the topic interesting while delivering the lecture.

OBJECTIVE OF RESEARCH: Our research goal is to study about the attributes which the
course instructor adopts to make the subject interesting through various techniques and
strategies.

RESEARCH DESIGN:

Methodology: The use of a qualitative method of data collection will help gain an
understanding of the topic for this research. The data will be collected from the primary
sources which will help in the gathering of knowledge of a wide range of perspectives with
the use of questionnaires method where the question will be close ended so the study would
be easy owing to the definite replies for the questions.

Sample questions:
Is the course responsible for students’ interest?
Is the instructor solely responsible for creating interest in a particular course?
Do teaching methods impact interest generation?
Do classmates play a role in interest generation in course?
Does class room environment impact interest generation?
Does technology have an important role to play for creating interest for the future generation?

Sample design: This questionnaire will be distributed to the sample of 500 selected students
as well as the instructors which will help in analysing the finding from a narrower and well-
informed point of view. It will be distributed to various schools, colleges & coaching
institutes.

DATA COLLECTION: Data will be gathered by the group members via online surveys and
questionnaires.
ANALYSIS PROCEDURES: Standard coding techniques will be incorporated, followed by
simple tabulation and cross- tabulation for observing and analysing the collected data.

REPORT PREPARATION: A well documented report will be formulated for better and
simplified understanding of the analysis drawn. It will help in getting to the roots of the
problem and addressing the same in a logical manner. The conclusion so drawn will make
understanding the correlation among variables easier.

The content of the report will include the following:

RESOURCES:

We will be responsible for producing questionnaire. We will use our own computers to create
and send the questionnaires. Once we receive the questionnaire, we will input the data
received ourselves to analyse it. The research will take 1 month to send the questionnaires
and receive the results and tabulate them.
