Bajaj Auto Limited is an Indian automobile manufacturer, in two segments: two-wheelers and
commercial vehicles consisting of three-wheelers and low-cost quadricycle(Qute). It has been in
the industry for about 73 years. They started as a private limited company and went public in
1960. They’ve three manufacturing plants in Aurangabad, Pune, and Pantnagar. They’re the
third largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world, second in India, having produced about 13.6
million motorcycles this year alone. They’re the largest manufacturers of auto-rickshaws in the
world, exporting to approximately 70 countries in the world. It has about 8000 permanent
employees under its payroll.

Bajaj Auto Limited follows a traditional mechanistic organizational structure with

business units: Research and Development, Marketing, Finance, Manufacturing, and Operations.
In the current day scenario, Bajaj Auto Limited outsources manufacturing of most of its child
parts to vendors spread across India and few parts for KTM(a premium motorcycle brand
partially owned by Bajaj) from Austria. The procurement of these child parts from the vendors is
a tedious job due to lack of coordination not only between the vendors and the component
development department but also between departments in the organization. Mass termination of
employees is a common practice owing to redundant roles and improper delegation of
responsibilities. The performance evaluation is extremely subjective and not transparent leading
to dissatisfaction amongst employees.

Since Bajaj is in a unique scenario requiring both specializations i.e, huge production demand
and agility in a fast-changing environment, it requires a structure catering to the same. Through
this project, we would like to analyze the present structure for suitability and if possible suggest
some improvements.
