Acceptance Standard: - Not more than 10nos of flaws per 100sq. mm area for
each step
- 15 mm total length of flaws for each step.
- Max length of any flaw should not exceed 6 mm.

7. Forging Grain Flow:


7.1 - Check for Symmetrical Grain Flow.
7.2 - Check 1st Piece Forged from new cut die
7.3 - Check 1st Piece whenever input stock size is changed.

8. Forging Heat Treatment:


Iso Thermal Annealing
8.1- Austenizing Temperature: 940±10°C
8.2 - Soak at Austenising Temp for 150 Minutes Minimum
8.3 - Select suitable Fast Cooling Time (Minimum 10 minutes) & Transformation
Temperature 660±10°C & Soak for 180 Minutes at Transformation
Temperature to achieve desired Microstructure and Hardness

9. Microstructure:
Uniformly Distributed Ferrite, Lamellar Pearlite and Maximum 10% Bainite.
Widmanstatten Structure & Banding NOT ACCEPTABLE

10. Hardness: 170 – 200 BHN

11. Spark & Spectral:


11.1– Check 100% pieces for spark

11.2 - Check 100% parts of every lot for spectral

12. Test samples of Jominy, Macro Inclusion, Step down Test, Grain Flow & Iso-
Thermal Annealed Microstructure to be identified by punching Heat No. on the
Sample & Prevent from Corrosion & Oxidation & to be preserve for 4 months
minimum. Same will be verified at regular Interval by FAL Representative.

• Non Metallic Inclusion • Iso-thermal Annealed
• Internal Soundness Microstructure
• Hardness Value of 10% lot Size
• Submit spark & Spectral Report

15. Supply Conditions:


15.1- Iso Thermal Annealed Forgings should be sent batch wise with clear
Identification along with Microstructure Sample & same should be
Mentioned in Test Certificate.
15.2 - One single supply should be of one Heat No.
15.3 - No single Heat No. should be of less than 500 nos.
15.4 - Forgings of different Heat Nos. should be clearly marked separately & same
Should be mentioned in Test Certificate.
