Blind Identification of SFBC-OFDM Signals Using Subspace Decompositions and Random Matrix Theory

Summary: This paper deals with blind signal identification of OFDM. Space frequency block coding
(SFBC) method is used for identification of signal. It proposes an extended SFBC identification algorithm
for MIMO-OFDM transmissions over frequency selective channel. Here exists the comparison of
efficiency and probability of successful blind identification modulated transmitted signal with previous
methods including STBC.

Summary of the proposed algorithm

Input: The observed symbols sequence y.

Output: 7 types of SFBC code Cˆ.

1: set k = 1

2: repeat

3: Vectorize the received block of adjacent sub-carriers

and get ˜yk using (7), (12) and (15a)

4: Compute the covariance matrix Rk using (23)

5: Eigenvalue decomposition of Rk

6: Construct the test statistic Uq(k) using (24)

7: Compute the threshold γq using (28)

8: Estimate ˆq (k) using the serial hypothesis test by the

decision criterion (27)

9: k=k+2

10: until k = N − 1

11: Get subsets in (31) or continue to the step 18 with Cˆ =

SM(3) using (32) and (30)

12: According to the previous result, set k = 2 or 4 or 8

13: repeat

14: Step 3- Step 8

15: k = k + 2 or k + 4 or k + 8

16: until k = N − 2 or N − 4 or N − 8

17: Obtain Cˆ using (32) and (30) 18: return C

BER Performance of SFBC OFDM System over TWDP Fading Channel

Summary: OFDM performance degrades in high frequency selective fading model. Previous works on
SFBC are in Rayliegh and Nakagami fading channel but these cannot represent the real-world fading
scenario like directional antennas, wide band signals, cavity structure (aircraft, bus or vehicle to vehicle)
These can be modeled by Two Wave with Diffuse Power (TWDP).

K = ratio of total specular power to total diffuse power

Δ = relative strength of two specular components

In this literature, BER of STBC OFDM of 16 QAM, 64 QAM, QPSK are analyzed over TWDP fading channel
with k = 0 and 10, Δ = 0. BER increases with the increase of the number of receiving antenna is also
observed.

BER Performance and Comparison of MIMO System with STBC and MRC over Different Fading
Channel.

Summary:

Selection of antenna minimizes the cost and complexity of communication system by selecting a single
antenna or group of antennas. This paper deals with system performance of MIMO with transmit
diversity i.e. Alamouti STBC and receive diversity i.e. MRC is analyzed in less severe and severely faded
environment. BER using BPSK, QPSK and 16-QAM are evaluated over Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami-m
fading channel.

Results show that BER performance is improved by applying receive diversity. Thus, diversity techniques
with digital modulation are tied up with multi antenna system to enhance the reliability and throughput.
Furthermore, the performance of system can also be compared with channel capacity for different
constellation using different number of transmit and receive antennas and analysis can be done while
considering shadowing along with multipath fading.
