Academic Continuity Plan

• Teaching Continuity Guide

Maryhill College strives to meet the needs of its growing student body
by recognizing the ways in which teaching and learning with technology can
enhance the educational experience for our students. Being responsive by
nature, the flexible learning approaches embrace the student's learning
needs, styles, and circumstances in crafting the learning materials. Lessons
are designed in such a way that delivery is possible through various modes
(i.e. distance, online, modular, face-to-face, and blended). Doing so will also
facilitate an easy transition to face-to-face teaching through a well-designed
program worth keeping and implementing beyond disruptive events.

Continuity planning is essential to the MC’s operational effectiveness

and ability to fulfill our mission of teaching and learning. The recent
experience with the COVID-19 virus has underscored the importance of
ensuring that we are prepared as an academic community to continue
operations under any range of circumstances that may cause disruption.

Offering online courses is one way we are able to expand access to the
quality education. Online Distance Learning (often referred to as e-learning) is a
type of distance education that takes place over the internet, and may use an
online learning platform. Online learning is catalyzing a pedagogical shift in how
teachers teach and students learn. There is a shift away from top-down lecturing
and passive students to a more interactive, collaborative approach in which
students and instructors co-create the learning process. The teacher’s role is
changing from the “sage on the stage” to “the guide on the side.”

For students with little or no internet connection, a modular learning

approach may be utilized. Modular Distance Learning is an approach to remote
learning wherein students are provided a self-directed segment of instruction as
well as a structured and sequenced set of learning activities. It employs self-paced
learning modules in digital format/electronic copy, pre-recorded video lessons,
PowerPoint Presentation slides, audio files, and learning contents which are stored
in a flash drive (USB On-The-Go)
