Horizontal Well Performance

Problem 6
The following data is given for a horizontal well system:

-Horizontal permeability = 50 md
-Vertical permeability = 5 md
-Formation thickness = 30 feet
-Fluid viscosity = 3 cP
-Formation volume factor = 1.7325 res bbl/ST bbl
-Drainage pressure = 3,200 psia
-Well pressure = 1,850 psia
-Length of horizontal section = 950 feet
-Well diameter = 6 inch
-Drainage radius = 1,000 feet

Perform the following:

1. Calculate the rate from this well with the given horizontal section
2. Calculate the PI ratio between the horizontal well and a vertical one
3. Study the effect of the following parameters on the PI ratio:
i. Formation thickness, h. Take h = 10, 30, 60, 100, 500
ii. Permeability heterogeneity, α. Take α = 0.25, 1, 3, 10, 50
iii. Length of horizontal section, L. Take L= 200, 600, 1,000, 5,000,
10,000 feet
In each one of the cases, assume the original data and change only the
involved parameter. Present the studied cases in graph form.
