Key Responsibilities of an Executive Trainee

Executive trainees have to work in different departments on rotational basis, so that they
understand the work procedures implied by these departments and understand their roles
throughly. They need to understand the broad range of the operational activities carried out by
the organization. Initially they perform junior level work, aide the departmental managers / staffs
in accomplishing their tasks, and carry out other routine work carried on by the organization. As
they develop the skills and expertise required for handling the higher positions, they are assigned
with higher responsibilities and are gradually promoted to the higher position.

The key responsibilities of an executive trainee comprise:

 Attending the formal training provided by the organization, noting down the instructions
given while training, understanding the theoretical aspects of the organization's goals and
operations, understanding the organization's expectations from their executive for
planning the career goals accordingly, etc.
 Working in various departments on a rotational basis, understanding the intricacies
involved in each department, determining the patterns of work environment in various
departments, and understanding the various work aspects as per the organizational
requirement
 Working for both junior and senior level employees of various department in order to
gain required skills and expertise, understanding the work functionalities of various
responsibilities assigned to them, and understanding the exact involvement of work
functionalities required in every department for carrying out the organizational operations
efficiently
 Undertaking the project activities related to productivity and workflow activities,
practicing management skills by observing other participants involved in the team,
gaining in-depth knowledge about the logic and science involved in business
administration process, and understanding the constraints like demand and supply
 Learning to manage the outsourcing of essential services, understanding the reason of
outsourcing, and commitment of the service provider for future reference after
completing the training period
 Understanding the marketing aspects of organizational management like maintaining
public relations, advertisement, sales and publicity, etc., for understanding the company's
sales strategies, working with advertising agency and production agency for
accomplishing the responsibilities appropriately

Educational Qualification

For getting an entry-level position of an executive trainee, one has to obtain a bachelor's degree
in business management, business administration, or in a related field of business or something
which directly relates to the target industry. Bachelor's degree in business field is considered, but
not generally preferred as the executive trainee gets all the relevant skills and expertise during
his on the job training. One can also apply for a training program without the educational
credentials required for obtaining the job, as most of the on job training programs cover what
their executives need to perform. Along with the educational credentials, one must also have an
aptitude and interest in working for the concerned industry for obtaining the position of
executive trainee in any organization.

Executive Training Program

Executive training programs are conducted by an organization for promoting their internal
company's employees for senior management positions. They may also target external candidates
and train them for the executive position accordingly. If one possesses the necessary soft skills
for fulfilling the management responsibilities efficiently, one can apply for the executive training
program and grab the position of the executive trainee in the organization. MBA is not required
for being eligible to enroll in this program. One can apply if he has a bachelor's degree, required
soft skills, and aptitude to fulfill the responsibilities of an executive position effectively.

Many organizations have specific ways for selecting the employees with management abilities
and train them accordingly, so that they can handle their responsibilities effectively. The
organizations select the appropriate candidates by two methods:

1. The formal method where the top level executives are hired on the basis of formal
education in MBA and are hired through MBA internships or graduate hiring process
2. The training method where the employees from the organization are selected and trained
accordingly, so that they are capable to accomplish the responsibilities of the
management position efficiently

The executive training programs are designed in a way that the employees from the organization
get selected on the basis of their skills and talent. These programs polish the existing skills of the
employees and make them capable of handling the responsibilities effectively. These programs
are designed in a way that the training covers all the aspects of job responsibilities which are
required to run the organization effortlessly.
