Wireless Ball Follower Robot
Objectives
1. Demonstrating a robots capability in distinguishing an object from a noisy background using
image processing in real time
2. Live tracking the object and moving towards it

Scope of the project


1. A real time image processing code based on MATLAB to filter out noise in a given
environment and object detection and tracking abilities
2. A battery operated robot wirelessly connected (through WiFi) to a PC, tracking the target and
moving towards it.

Features
1. Shape Detection: Polygons ,circles etc. can be detected using the suitable code
2. Colour Detection: Automatic colour thresholding can be achieved
3. Tracking: An object can be shown moving about the camera. Motion tracking will track the
object and find out its properties and can lock it even in the presence of other moving
objects
4. Configuration: Configuration of the robot will depend on your specific needs
5. Support: Complete support in terms of detailed user manuals, presentations etc.

Program Capabilities

• The above two figures demonstrate the image processing programs ability to detect a
‘round’ object of a specific color in a noisy or confusing background
• The program tracks an object based on colour and roundness
• However as the object is taken away from the camera the properties differentiating it
from the background diminishes but to a practical extent continues to track it

• The object used here is a cylinder and as the orientation is changed the radial
properties will reduce and the program doesn’t track it.
• A sphere in a less noisy background will be tracked without fail as has been
demonstrated in our YouTube Video
• We will be uploading a new video shortly on our YouTube Channel

Shape classification and distinction

• A red cube of square shape is not detected and instead the program only tracks
the disc
