This is a guide to everlasting success in Mr. Smith’s math class. This survival guide outlines the daily procedures and routines of Mr. Smith’s class. You are expected to keep this paper in the front of your notebook at all times!
1. When entering the class
Enter the class quietly and begin work on bell-work immediately. If you are using one of the classroom calculators, you must pick it up on the way in. Once you enter the class you are not allowed to leave unless you have been given permission. 2. Daily Materials Students must bring their planner, math folder, textbook, paper, pencil, and pen on a daily basis. 3. Tardies You are tardy if you are not in your seat, working when the bell rings. If you are tardy, enter the class quietly and get to work immediately. 4. Getting out of your seat Students MUST ASK PERMISSION to get out of their seats at ALL TIMES. 5. Bathroom Please plan to use the restroom and water fountain before coming to class. 6. How to sharpen pencils No pencil sharpening is allowed during lessons. Please take care of this before the bell. If you must sharpen your pencil during class, please raise your hand and wait for permission to get up. 7. Gum Gum must not be a distraction! It should stay in your mouth! 8. Throwing away trash Do this on the way in or the way out; being out of your seat is not permissible during class. 9. Answering Questions Always raise your hand before asking any questions. This procedure applies at ALL times. 10. How to head homework Students are to head their homework in this order: First & Last name, Date of Assignment, Class Period, and Name of Assignment and problem numbers. 11. Grading Homework Students are to have an ink pen every day. Homework assignments will be graded in class. Grades consist of three categories: Bellwork (10%), Assignments (40%), and Tests & Quizzes (50%). All homework corrections are due 1 day after the teacher returns the assignment from original grading. 12. If you are absent It is your responsibility to turn in work that was due the day you were absent. Also, you must get the previous day’s homework assignment from the teacher. Remember, you are still expected to participate in each day’s current activities.

13. Late work
Any assignment that is late or missing must be turned in by the final test for that module otherwise, it will be turned into a zero. 14. Calculators You will have homework in this class on a regular basis. Having a scientific calculator will be integral to your success in this class. Remember that if you are using a classroom calculator you must get it before the bell and return it before leaving. 15. Talking You are given one warning in class to stop talking and upon the second request, YOU will have to call your parent to let them know you are being a distraction to those around you. 16. How to turn in homework/Passing in papers We will grade each day’s homework in class. After we finish grading papers, we will pass our homework to the far left column and the teacher will pick it up. 17. Be courteous I expect all of my students to be courteous. This includes saying please and thank you, having good sportsmanship when playing games, not arguing with the teacher, and obeying THE THUMPER LAW. 18. Emergency Procedures Emergency procedures (fire and tornado) are posted on the wall and will be discussed with the class several times during the school year. Students must be absolutely silent during drills or an actual emergency. 19. Covid Procedures Hand sanitizer will be used when entering the classroom, after using the restroom, after coughing or sneezing and before lunch. Please insure that you are sneezing/coughing into your elbow and use hand sanitizer immediately after. Please wear a mask as often as possible. Students will be asked to wear a mask upon entering the classroom for the safety of others. 20. Classroom Discipline Warnings, Seating Arrangements, Phone Calls and/or Conferences may play part in the discipline procedure. Continued Offences will result in Documented Office Referral. Each student is given 1 formal warning for classroom disruption. After the formal warning is given, students will then be subject to a behavior referral. This will include the student contacting parents during class time to explain their behavior.
