Online
Pedagogy

Activity During this online activity, the teacher will be screen casting an exercise for her online class to follow along and
participate in. The students will be using the online simulation to compare fractions, decimals, and percentages. The
students are presented with 3 grids of 100 cubes each - one grid for fractions, one grid for decimals, and one grid for
percentages. The students will be able to compare different fractions, percentages, and decimals to see which ones
have a greater or smaller value. Then, students will be tasked with ordering the amounts from greatest to least or
least to greatest. Students will also compare the same value in all three areas to see how it visually looks different,
while understanding they all still show the same value.
First, the teacher will explain the activity and the instructions and follow an “I do, we do, you do,” lesson. Each
student will see the activity that is being screen casted on their own computer, and follow along while the teacher
models a few example problems. Next, the teacher will begin a few problems by modeling the first grid, and then
calling on students to work through the rest of the problem out loud using their microphones. Last, the students will
be given one problem at a time to do on their own. When finished, the teacher will call on students to share their
answers and work and review in needed areas.
Using this simulation tool online, the teacher will be able to see the screens of all of the students to evaluate their
performance, and the students will be getting valuable practice using their content knowledge.
