Unit Geography
Understanding goal Students will understand that present continuous is used to describe
images, pictures and actions that are occurring now.
Performance of understanding Students use correctly the present continuous negative and interrogative
structure to describe actions that are occurring now.
Time 100 minutes

PRESENT CONTINUOUS- NEGATIVE AND INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES


Exploration:
1. Write two (2) sentences about, what are you doing at the moment?
Example:
I am watching TV at the moment.
a. _I am doing tasks at the moment
b. I am using the computer at the moment
2. Write two (2) sentences about, what is your family doing at the moment?
Example:
My mom is reading a magazine
Grandma: My mom is walking the dog right now
Dad: I don’t know where my dad is

Clarification:
1. Look at your English book, Everything 2b, students’ book page 15 (Picture 1) and solve exercise 4,
points 1, 2 and 3.
2. In your English notebook, put the words in the correct order to form negative and interrogative
sentences in present continuous.
Example:
is / My / not / sleeping. / dad My dad is not sleeping.
You / preparing / are / the / dinner / ? / Are you preparing the dinner?
a. is / singing / beautiful / Jack / a / not / song
Jack is not singing beautiful a song
b. are / my / parents / reading /?/ a book
My parents are reading a book?
c. not / listening to / am / music / I
I am not listening to music

Explanation chart:
Look at the structure of the negative sentences.
SUBJECT + VERB TO BE + NOT + MAIN VERB + ING + COMPLEMENT
Example:
- I am not speaking English in this moment.
- He is not washing his hands right now.
Negative Structure
SUBJECT VERB TO NOT MAIN VERB WITH ING COMPLEMENT
BE
I am not speaking French
He / She / It is not Washing his hands
You / We / They are not cleaning the room

Look at the structure of the interrogative sentences.


VERB TO BE + SUBJECT + MAIN VERB + ING + COMPLEMENT + QUESTION MARK (?)
Example:
- Am I speaking French in this moment?
- Is he washing his hand right now?

Interrogative Structure
VERB TO BE SUBJECT MAIN VERB COMPLEMEN QUESTION
(AM - IS - ARE) WITH ING T MARK
Am I speaking French ?
Is She, He, It washing his hands ?
Are We, You, They cleaning the bathroom ?

Application:
1. In your English notebook, complete the table changing the given sentences into affirmative, negative or
interrogative according to the case.

picking flowers for their mom. John is carrying his hat. Susan is wearing a bonnet. At this
moment, Sarah, her neighbor, is walking by the door, but she is seeing them, she is helping
someone as she is carrying textbooks and a doll.

8. Rewrite the sentences you chose as negative and interrogative sentences.
Example:

What can I do if I don’t understand? / (Y si no entiendo, ¿qué puedo hacer?)


1. Identify the friendly words. (Words in English that look similar to Spanish)
2. Highlight the unknown words. (New words in English)
3. Use the dictionary to understand the unknown words and write these new words in your English
notebooks.
4. Ask to one of your family members for help to understand the information in the workshop.-
