Lesson 10
The Second Restriction
Nekudot of SAG descended below the tabur of Partzuf Galgalta and there filled the empty vessels of the sof (end) of
Galgalta with orh chasadim (light of kindness). With their being there they sensed that in the empty vessels of Galgalta
there are reshimot (imprints, memories, impressions) from the light which had filled the sof of Galgalta before the sof of
Galgalta refined itself.
The light which filled the sof (end) of Galgalta was orh Chasadim with a little bit of orh chochma. After the light left there
remained reshimot (imprints, remembrances, impressions) from the light which was there.
These reshimot have a close resemblance to the light that was in nekudot of SA"G, and also both of the wills of nekudot of
SA"G and the vessels in the sof of Galgalta don't want to receive light, therefore nekudot of SA"G mixed with sof of
Galgalta and filled its empty vessels.
Partzuf SA"G is Partzuf Binah. Binah at the end of its extension, has the quality draw orh chochma for Zeir Anpin . Once it
decides it wants to draw orh Chochma it senses the reshimot in the sof of Galgalta. The reshimot of the Sof of Galgalta are
from the 4th aspect but the screen of SA"G is only from aspect 2, and therefore not strong enough to restrain itself from
wanting to receive this light .
This is simple according to the rule: if the pleseaure which is felt by the desire to receive is greater than the strength of the
screen, the vessel wants to receive it for its own sake, because the one which is stronger prevails.
All of the worlds and the partzufim are portions of the Malchut of Einsof . This malchut made a restriction and decided
never to receive just for itself again.
Therefore now when there was awakened in the partzuf of nekudot of SA"G a desire to receive for itself, it realizes that it is
not strong enough to prevail over this desire it decides not to receive any light whatsoever and this is called the 2nd
tzimtzum (restriction).
Example: A person who was used to receive specific fixed amount of money in order to hand it to needy people, suddenly
he receives a very large amount of money. Then he feels that he can't hand over the money, because now he wants to
receive the money for himself and is not capable of resisting such a great enjoyment as this.
As long as enjoyment with the money was not greater than his screen (the intention to give the others) he prevailed
against the enjoyment, because the enjoyment to distribute money was greater than enjoyment from stealing. However
when the enjoyment that he could receive from the money became greater than the enjoyment to distribute it, the person
immediately wants to receive it for himself.
Thus works the desire to receive in every man and every created being, because all of our "material" is just the desire to
receive. If we do acts of bestowal, this is only because they bring us more benefit than acts of reception.
And so also occurred in the partzuf of nekudot of SA"G: in the portion of the partzuf which descended into the place of sof
of Galgalta it saw that there was much greater light which it could receive than it had been used to receive. It saw that if It
would continue wanting to receive, even though it only wanted to receive in order to give it would not be able to restrain
itself from wanting to receive for its own sake because the light was too great for it to restrain itself therefore It decided no
to receive at all even in a form of bestowal.
After tzimtzum 2 (second restriction) malchut can no longer use the desire to receive as it had previously, because if it
would, it would not be able to restrain itself from receiving in a form of reception, so now malchut has to use a new will,
this will is one of just bestowing , and this is called that "malchut rises to Binah" that is to say malchut no longer uses its
own will of receiving, but instead uses the will of Binah to bestow.
Now that malchut can no longer uses its vessels of receiving but can only uses its only vessels of bestowal so new
boundaries are set up to which light can extend. The place of below the tabur of Galgalta (the sof of Galgalta) is now called
the partzuf of nekudot of SA"G, and this where these new boundaries occur. The sefirot of Keter, Cochma, Binah of this
partzuf are the sefirot of rosh (head, beginning of partzuf), which do not want to receive. The sefirot Chesed, Gevoura,
Tiferet are like the sefirot Keter, Chochma, Binah except this is for the gouf of the partzuf: Chesed is like Keter, Gevoura
is like Chochma, Tiferet is like Binah, from this comes out that the sefirah of Tiferet is like Binah in the gouf of partzuf.

Each sefirah by itself includes ten specific sefirot. Therefore the sefirah of Tiferet is divided as Binah (like Binah in all
places: Binah of rosh, the partzuf of nekudot of SA"G which is also Binah):
1.into vessels which do not receive, which are the upper portion of Binah, which are the sefirot: Keter
ChochmaBinahChesedGevouraTiferet
2. into vessels which receive in order to give, which are the low portion of Binah, the sefirot:NetzachHod
YesodMalchut.
From this we see that if we divide all of the partzuf of Binah, that is to say, nekudot of SA"G, exactly into vessels which do
not receive and into vessels which do receive, the line of separation will be in the sefirah of Tiferet after is own individual
Tiferet, as seen in the diagram:
This place is called the Chazeh of partzuf nekudot of SA"G.
Malchut of the 1st restriction, which guards the first tzimtzum (restriction), ascended specifically to this place and remains
there and does not allow the light to enter below it. The boundary to the extension of the light which is made here is called
Parsa.
The ascending of malchut to the place of the chazeh of nekudot of SA"G in order to limit the extension of the light below is
called "Tzimtzum 2" Restriction 2. As a result of Restriction 1 it became forbidden to receive orh of Chochma for itself in a
form of reception. As a result of restriction 2 it became forbidden to receive at all orh of Chochma for itself, because
already from the partzuf of nekudot of SA"G and after there is no longer abilities to receive it in a form of bestowal.
Since that which is the will of the upper level becomes an obligatory law in the lower, in all the partzufim which are born in
the second restriction the Parsa remains and does not allow to pass through it below.
As a consequence of this all of the place below the tabur of partzuf Galgalta is divided into 4 divisions:
1. the place of Olam Atzilut (World of Atzilut), that there is possible for the light of Chochma to illuminate.
2. the place of Olam Briah (World of Briah), which is found already below the Parsa and there the light of
Chochma is not able to appear, but only orh of Chassadim.
3. the place of Olam Yetzira (World of Yetzira), below the place of Olam Briah
4. the place of Olam Asiya (World of Asiya), below the place of Olam Yetzira
5. at the end of Olam Asiya is the conclusion of "kedusha" (holiness). Barrier - the boundary between spirituality
and coreporeality, separates between the world of Asiya and the "point of this world"
6. "This World"
7. "Our World"
