 What’snew?
A rational algebraic expression is a ratio of two
polynomials provided that the denominator is not equal
to zero. In symbols:
P
, where P and Q are polynomials and Q ≠ 0.

algebraic expressions except because its
0
denominator is zero (0). Note that though 5 is
still considered a rational algebraic expression
since its denominator is considered 1, which is
also a polynomial.

what is required in each item.

1. Kurt Audrey conducted an experiment to determine

the stress on a copper bar. He used the formula
force
stress= . The force he applied was (4x -6) lb. He
area
found the area of the bar to be (2x2 +5x -12) ft2. What
would be his calculated stress? Provide a complete
solution.

2. You are assigned to present the report of your group

topic.

1. Condense your affirmation or disagreement to Leo

Tolstoy and his quote “A man is like a fraction whose
numerator is what he is and whose denominator is what
he thinks of himself; the larger the denominator, the
smaller the fraction.” Justify your answer.
2. Do you really think that there is beauty in simplicity?
Cite personal experiences that required you to simplify
real-life situations.
