 Research on the development of tourism starting from the early travelers until the

present. What made travelling different during the ancient times and now? What
is your dream trip and why?

According to Shackley, M. (2006), the most primitive beginnings of travel, tourism and
exploration were restricted to somewhat small geographical area on a global scale and are
associated to cultural, political history and to the development of transport technology that
showcases prototype that has set the representation for all the future developments up to the
present. In fact in most farms, people just travelled n short distances to reach towns particularly
markets, local events and festivals. It was only after the rise of the metropolitan-based Near
Eastern Civilizations in the Tigris Euphrates and Nile Valleys that any methodical longer
distance travels and the expanding and gradually more multifaceted requirements of the
government and the realm in the two regions.

According to Lickorish, L. & Jenkins, C. (2007), in Romans, the early roads gave an
helpful network for travel and communication in Europe. This period shows how royalty and
upper classes showed passion for their own ways to travel or reach a destination.

It is also essential to understand the early forms of travel and types of journey to
understand how tourism has evolved. It can be learned that recreational and instructive travel
previously existed in the classical world and, even in the past in Egypt under the pharaohs. In the
latter, there is substantiation of journeys emanating from a magnificence lifestyle and the search
for amusement, experience and recreation. I realized that the opportune groups of the population
educated the first journeys for delight. Their historical story tell us that they toured prominent
headstones and relics of ancient Egyptian culture, including, for instance, the step pyramid of
Sakkara, the Sphinx and the immense pyramids of Gizeh – buildings that had been constructed a
good thousand years earlier.9 The Greeks had similar traditions. I found out that they toured to
Delphi in order to question the Oracle, joined in the Pythian Games (musical and sporting
competitions) or the early Olympic Games. Herodot (485–424 B.C.) , the well-travelled writer
with an interest in both history and ethnology who visited Egypt, North Africa, the Black Sea,
Mesopotamia and Italy. (http://ieg-ego.eu/en/threads/europe-on-the-road/the-history-of-tourism)
I also learned that from England, the tours went on to, for instance, France and Italy.
Journeys to the conventional sites of Italy represented the best moment of the journey, but large
cities in other countries were visited: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Munich, Vienna and
Prague had significant portrayal power. During the sightsee the young aristocrats went and
toured to royal courts and aristocratic estates for, after all, one objective was to instruct them the
proper etiquette and social graces through practice. In the circumstance of the history of tourism,
the term "introductory phase" refers to all the developments, structures and innovations of
modern tourism between the first third of the 19th century and around 1950. This had its own
"starting phase that happened until 1915. This period revealed and encompassed the beginning of
a wide-ranging process characterized by an exemplary rise in a middle-class culture of travel and
its formation, popularisation and diversification. It geared up the mode for a mass tourism
identifiable to up to date concepts of spending leisure time. The development had evolution at
regular intervals and built upon a number of varying social conditions and factors. The most
central unquestionably embrace not only the move forward of industrialisation, demographic
changes, urbanisation and the revolution in transportation, but also the upgrading of social and
labour rights, the get higher in real income and the consequential changes in consumer demand
(Shackley, M.,2006).

In current time, tours are easier as there are means of transportation like airplanes,
cruises, buses, own cars and more. There are many travel agencies that offers promo or handle
tours in various places with fantastic and persuasive promo and offers. Electronic transactions
are faster as we entered the high-technology and the era of Smartphone and android phones. Way
back before, people had no high tech and things are so traditional.

MY DREAM TRIP
With my case, my dream trip is to travel many places in Europe. I feel that it is an
awesome trip to have the European tour. I want to appreciate the cultures, food, scenic spots and
the hospitality that I can experience there. Besides I feel challenge to visit this continent
especially that Europe is just one quarter the size of Asia, one third the size of Africa, but its pull
for travelers is without comparison around the world. I want to see the East London with its
shimmering post-Olympics makeover, or Amsterdam with its recently reopened Rijksmuseum. I
would also like to try a visit to popular Icelandic hot springs because I learned that Iceland seems
to be a good place to go. I want to experience lava fields and towering waterfalls. In Italy I
want to see Cinque Terre to see the said good places like Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia,
Manarola and Riomaggiore - each village has its own character and I want to explore the small
secreted beaches below and climb to the heights at the five scenic sanctuaries on the brink above
the towns. I also want to visit Moravia in Czech republic. I heard that they have good and
awesome wines there and good restaurants. I am not into alcoholism but I want to see the
biggest beer festivals there. I just see that Europe has a lot good places to offer. I also want to
experience how the live and deal with their daily lives. I feel it is also a way to learn their
contributions in our society. Another is that Europe has been so good at many aspects in the
industry. The experience seems to be so educational and good for me. I also feel that Europe can
help me undwind and learn also other Europen minds and languages. I want to travel with my
family. I want to enjoy and have fun. Besides I can find new learning in this journey and
probably good friends.

 Different disciplinary approaches to the study of tourism are – institutional

approach, product approach, historical approach, managerial approach, economic
approach, geographical approach, sociological approach and interdisciplinary
approach. Choose a tourist destination within the Philippines. Choose an approach
that you will use to develop that tourist destination.

I choose Vigan City and nearby places to be the tourist destination within in the
Philippines because it traces much of the Philippine life during the Spanish occupation in
the country. The old houses are good to see as they showed how houses are made with
the art of architectures that time. In here people can get amazed of the carriages,
mansions of yester-years. Through its history, each can recognize Vigan as one of the
few outstanding 16th century towns in the Philippines. In addition, Vigan is so
extraordinary, UNESCO classified it a World Heritage Site and noted, “Vigan is an
remarkably intact and well-potted example of a European trading town in East and
Southeast Asia. The architecture is beyond doubt philosophical of its roots in both
materials and design, in its synthesis of Asian building design and creation with European
majestic architecture and planning. In fact, for travelers, it means only that this could be
an idealistic adventure. Despite the Philippines has numerous period-haciendas and
mansions, Vigan has a full district of them. It’s like painted the town red through time.
Distinct from many of the Spanish settlements in the Philippines, I learned that Vigan
was selected not only as the capital of Spanish conqueror Juan De Salcedo’s Ilocos, but
also as a trading center. When he arrived, the place was previously a center of activity,
with undeviating trading relations with China. The Europeans sought silk and porcelain,
and so the city became component of the 250-galleon (ships) trade that linked Asia to
Europe and the New World. Vigan, apart from many cities, became a pathway of
different cultures. As I am keeping the idea of history as the way to appreciate Vigan, I
flawlessly suggest the use of historical approach. No matter what, history is a way to
learn more and appreciate how things are seen to be now. History is one way to get
fascinated of what happened before. Besides in Vigan as one walks down Crisologo
Street and check out “Earthquake Baroque” homes, one can really feel the artwork of
good hands. Then in Plaza Burgos accommodates St. Paul’s Cathedral while on the other
side, Plaza Salcedo holds to the Municipal Hall. I feel that Vigan City is always a good
destination to go. I will advertise using social media and other media platforms. I know
that there is always a big room for Vigan to be learned as a good place to go in the
Philippines. Foreigners can feel excited also to see the spots where traces of Spain can be
found. Vigan is a good place and it is really worth trying and seeing for.

Tracing the background of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur –Vigan it is so good to realize
that is also known as the Heritage City and it was was declared one of the New Seven
Wonder Cities (N7WC) of the world yesterday morning. The broadcast was met with
applause from government officials, residents and tourists who set a vigil Sunday night
in frontage of the Vigan City hall to wait for the affirmation last December 14, 2014. I
believe that is essential also for a tourist destination to be known in bigger horizons. The
announcement via electronic media was announded and made at 3 a.m. by Bernard
Weber, the president of the N7WC Foundation. The other cities confirmed in the
N7WC were Beirut, Lebanon; Doha, Qatar; Durban, South Africa; Havana, Cuba;
Kuala Kumpur, Malaysia; and La Paz, Bolivia.
