Chapter 1: Introduction
First of all, you need to measure your room and look at the
shape of your room.
Understand that each room has its own shape, size and
scale.
Now draw a layout plan of your bedroom or map it on graph
paper in a simpler and clutter free manner.
List down the furniture you need based on your functions
and start organizing it on paper with at least more than one
layout.
Measure the furniture pieces or look at the possible
available sizes for your room.
Check out for hurdle free movement and it does not disturb
any of the function such as switchboards or lights/ light
points, gadgets, door/windows, opening or closing of
closet/drawers, etc.
Understand the importance of each space and object in
your bedroom with available space.
Layout planning makes a huge difference when done
correctly and makes a larger impact on the overall design.

Single Bed: Specially designed for toddlers or kid’s
bedroom. Size of bed this bed is 36 x 75 inches.
Twin Bed: Little larger than the single bed in width. It is
used for a little growing child. Size of bed this bed is 39 x 75
inches .
Twin Xl Bed: Little longer than the twin model. It is
commonly used for growing kids. Size of bed this bed is 39 x
80 inches.
Double Bed: It's popular as a large size bed for kids who
needs just extra space. Size of bed this bed is 54 x 74 inches.
Full Bed: It is the same size as that double bed. Size of bed
this bed is 54 x 74inches
Queen Bed: Comfortable for two people to sleep but with
less spare space. Size of bed this bed is 60 x 84 inches
King Bed: It is spacious yet comfortable for two people to
sleep. Size of bed this bed is 76 x 84 inches

Beds with storage as secondary function are known as
storage beds.
It has hidden compartments for storage at one or more
places inside the bed.
It could act as additional storage for your bedroom.
There are mainly three types of storage beds:
Divan beds
Bed frames with drawers
Ottoman bed frames (two types of ottoman bed frames are
full ottoman & Half ottoman)

A nightstand provides one drawer and its function is to
provide a stand for items like alarm or bedside lamp etc.

Hinged Modular wardrobe is also known as Swing door
wardrobe.
Here, the shutter is attached with closet's edge(carcass) by
a hinge.
Designs can be modified as per the need and size of the
room.
The layout of this wardrobe could fit well for large or small
spaces.
These are easy to install and move around. Also, it is
cheaper than sliding modular wardrobes and thus widely
used.
It needs clear space in front for shutters to open- close as
well as easy functioning.

SLIDING MODULAR WARDROBE
This wardrobe has a sliding door as the name suggests.
Shutters are fixed on metal channels or UPVC channels at
bottom and top of the closet.
It helps in saving plenty of space as shutters slide on the
channel and do not open outwards.
It can be used for any size of rooms but medium to large
are preferable.
It looks classy and elegant when finished properly.
Its lasting depends on user preferences but lasting time is
usually less than hinged modular wardrobes or at least it
requires maintenance when slides do not work efficiently.

WALK-IN CLOSET
As the name says these are longer wardrobes preferred for
big rooms.
Mostly used in master bedrooms as they are most spacious
and facilitates the most.
They have really large storage with separate areas for
dressing etc.
It could be sliding or hinged shutter or amalgamation of
both as per requirements.
It looks classy provides smart storage facilities for each of
the storage items.
These are the most expensive to build as it requires extra
planning, space, and materials.

In the bedroom, TV is one of the main entertainment
sources.
Majority of the time we spend in bedrooms are either
sleeping or watching television.
So, its unit has to be a special that you love to have in your
room.
One could design a separate cabinet, table, wall mounted
unit or simply floating plane or platform.

Laminate
Laminate is another popular finishing material widely used
in today's time.
It comes with a wide range of colours and designs from
matte to glossy.
Laminates are scratch resistant, easy to clean material but
are brittle in nature.
Once cracked it is hard to use and thus produce a huge
waste if not taken care of.
PVC foil
Foils are pressed on a MDF board in order to create a
decorative film over the surface of MDF.
It comes in a wide range from scratch resistant to semi-gloss
finishes.
Lacquer or Polyurethane paint
Coating the surface of the furniture item with lacquered
or polyurethane paint gives a smooth finish and
extraordinary aesthetics.
Variety of colors and gloss are available in this type of
paints.
Also, they are easy to maintain which makes it another
great reason to choose for your furniture.
Mirror
Mirrors are available in different sizes and colours. It could
make your space look visually larger.
Also, it reflects the light which makes a room airier and full
of light.
Glass
The modern interior style uses glass as a finishing material
more than any other styles used in any interior style.
Glass comes in a range of clear, opaque, back painted,
painted, printed, frosted, stained, etc.
It adds a sense of light and minimalism to space.
It can contradict any interior style based upon its usage and
compliments the decor of your room.
Though it needs maintenance in the form of cleaning and

It is expensive materials but at the same time, it is more
durable and needs a little maintenance in the form of polish

In today's time industrial type decor is largely used in
bedrooms from side tables to beds.
Even contemporary style incorporates metal frames in their
interior designs.
Metal Ceiling
Tough it is generally not used directly in the bedroom
false ceiling but can be used in bathrooms or dressing
area.
galvanized iron and aluminum are widely used
because of its strength and durability.
The cost is generally low as it is easy to install as well
as access.
Synthetic Leather or Cloth Ceiling
Leather or cloth ceilings are nowadays widely used in
the false ceiling due to its lightweight and appealing
character.
Freedom in design with beautiful aesthetics at a low
price makes this material a prime choice of many
designers in today's era.
The disadvantage of this ceiling is it requires regular
cleaning dust may be layered over a certain time.
Ambient Lighting
Task Lighting
This is concentrated light or light subjected towards certain
area mostly a smaller one.
It can be placed near the working area of your bedroom. It
can accommodate light for functions like reading, writing,
sewing or fine works, etc.
Task lighting works well when contrasted by contrasting
light.
In-room full of ambient light there could be a task light
used for a specific function and it improves the overall
environment of your room.
Atmosphere Task lighting stimulates your brain for doing
work efficiently.
This is because your concentration will be in your work
more and only visibility will be there in your subjected area
allowing the mind to focus maximum in your work.
Using the following fixtures to create task lighting in your
bedroom.
Desk, Floor Lamps and Swing Arm. Using lamps beside your
desks or bedside tables, or anywhere for little extra light
accommodated for working.
3. Accent Lighting
It is concentrated light yet drawing intention towards its
focal point. It is a great way to use this light to create or add
drama and style to your bedroom area.
It could be used to highlight artwork or a painting or your
back wall of the bed.
Atmosphere It creates is very sophisticated in your
bedroom.
It evokes your feelings and emotions towards a highlighted
object.
Using the following lights one can create accent lighting
Wall Lights are a great way to use this type of lighting by
simply providing it on your side tables or above family
photos or artwork you love to see or highlight.

Placement of Air conditioning units in the bedroom should
be in one of the sides of your bed but not directly above
your bed.
Thus, it could be placed on the left or right of your bed.
Putting right above it may result in health hazards and
during repairs, it might spoil your bed if not taken care.

It has quite a lot of similarities with matte paint but is far
more durable and maintenance free in comparison to matte

When designing or dreaming of the wall to look in a certain
way, there is nothing better option than personalizing for
your own. With wallpapers, you can customize the design as
per your needs.

Once wallpaper application is done and if you find a part of
your wallpaper needs to be replaced after a certain time

Painting is quite an easy option and a practical solution for
quick decoration or makeover of your room.

Painting a room in one of the cheapest options to cover
your wall with the least initial cost of coverings.
Ease of change
Either you are bored or your wall needs upgradation then
painting is one of the easiest options for change.
Less permanent.
Touching or maintenance is a necessity after just a few years
in most of the case.

It looks flats typically with solid colours which usually result
