Additional Steps

in Commissioning Drives at Site

Air Cooled “GEN IV”

This section contains a few additional steps for the basic commissioning of the medium-voltage drive of the series
“Perfect Harmony Gen IV” (air cooled) to be carried out at site.

Steps as listed are neither complete, nor applicable nor sufficient for the many site conditions you will find. Site
commissioning always requires utmost consideration of given conditions and an approach in accordance with these.

Visual Inspection prior to Switching On 1(2)

With the system operator, if necessary, ensure that the medium voltage to the converter is switched off and safely disconnected
(e.g. switchgear truck in test position, outgoing side to converter is grounded).

Take individually available measures to safely prevent the medium voltage being switched on by a third party.

Open the cabinet cover for the line-side and motor-side cable connections and verify that the power cables both of the line-side
and the motor-side are de-energized (observe all relevant safety measures).

Check whether all of the cables are firmly connected (at least by “tugging" them), check the connection areas of the cables for
cleanliness and ensure that they are free of "foreign objects" (cleaning rags, etc.).

Note down the values of the attenuation resistors for the line- and motor-voltage measurement:
R.attenuator.line supply = . . . . . . . . . . . . . . kOhm R.attenuator.motor = . . . . . . . . . . . . . . kOhm

Within the realm of possibility, check to see whether the correct circuit-breaker and the correct motor are connected to
your drive.

Check the connection of the cables in the motor terminal box; note down the type of connection "star", "delta": . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ensure that motor and converter are connected to the base grounding system with sufficient cross-section in a star pattern (not
in series); also ensure that the shielding of shielded power cables is grounded. For converters that consist of more than one
transport unit, check the grounding of each unit.

On the rear of the converter, open the cabinet cover to the cells, visually inspect for cleanliness, foreign objects and loose
connections.
Most importantly, ensure that all of the control wires are connected to the bypass contactors for "Option Bypass".

Note down whether the cell star point is connected at T1 or at T2: . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Visual Inspection prior to Switching On 2(2)

Check the mobility of the fan flaps (they close to cover the power cell cabinet when air flow is minimal).

Check the free movement of all of the fans.

Open the doors to the power cells and visually inspect for cleanliness, foreign objects and loose or removed cable ties of the
power cell arresting lever (either shipped with secured cell arresting levers or shipped separately).

Check to ensure that all of the fiber-optic connectors are connected on the "Cell Control Boards".

Open the doors to the transformer and visually inspect for cleanliness, foreign objects and loose connections. Ensure that there
are no defective fuses and that all of the fuses are in place.

Note down the transformer rating plate data:

power = ............... ratio = ............... (calculated)

Uprimary = ............... Iprimary = ...............

Usecondary = ............... Isecondary = ...............

Note down the currently applicable tapping at the primary end (“ex-plant” the settings are always "+5%"): . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Close the miniature circuit-breaker for supplying the fan and the electronics power supply.

Check the connection of the plant to the customer's terminal strip; most importantly, ensure the connection for the switching-off of
the medium voltage switch.

For converters with several transport units, check the electrical interconnection of the individual units.

Analyze the "System Operational Program" with regard to the most essential functions (e.g. switching off the drive, fan activation,
connection of the plant-end periphery via inputs and outputs).

Special Inspection after Repair Work in the Cell Section

If comprehensive repair work has been carried out in the cell section or if there is reason to suspect that there could be faults in the cell
section area, the following steps, which go beyond the routine commissioning, should be carried out.

In accordance with the previously established rules, ensure that the medium voltage can definitely NOT be switched on during
these steps.

Connect a 3-phase variable transformer (Variac) to the three connection “terminals” of a cell (for the “GEN IV", via the plug-in
contacts on the back).

Slowly increase the voltage to 3ph50VAC and ensure that the three phase voltages at all of the cells are also 50VAC. (Depending
on the transformation ratio of the transformer the supply of 50VAC on the secondary side induces a considerably higher voltage
on the primary side; this voltage, in turn, generates 50VAC on all other secondary windings.)

Do not carry out any measurements on the cells during the next step! Increase the voltage of the Variac in 50VAC steps up to the
maximum after waiting for a few minutes, but not beyond the rated connection voltage of the cells. This slow, step-by-step
increase of the cell voltage slowly charges the DC-link capacitors; if any fault occurs, the energy input is limited by the Variac and
the consequences of the fault remain manageable.

Using the operator panel display or Tool Suite, check the input voltage (VDIN) and input frequency (FRIN):
- the input frequency must read 50Hz or 60Hz; a negative value indicates that the incoming supply is counterclockwise,
- the input voltage must correspond to the current voltage of the Variac, multiplied by the transformation ratio.

Reduce the voltage to zero and remove the Variac.

Close all access to the compartments that carry medium voltage (transformer, front and rear of power cells, supply and motor
cable connections, motor terminal box; at this step the connection to the motor still remains disconnected!).
