interviewing for at that time. Each of us will have (4) ………. five minutes to ask each applicant
questions. Thus, I feel it’s important for each of (5) ………. to know what questions the others
intend to ask the applicants. I have compiled (6) ………. list of thirty questions and attached it to
this memo. Please look them (7) ………., let me know if there are any you intend to ask, and
send me your list of questions by tomorrow. I’ve circulated a memo similar to this to each of the

The (1) ………. rapidly expanding economy in the Pacific Basin is Taiwan, with South Korea

(3) ………. enough can be said about the market potential of China. As these countries continue
to develop, (4) ………. manufacturing capabilities will become (5) ………. complex and their
market for advanced technology (6) ………. expand. The telecommunications industry, for (7)
………., will soon take off. It is the educated labor force as well as the work ethic (8) ……….

Unit 10: Ethics

China’s heavy pollution has been well documented. Last year, Beijing (1) ………. two “red
alerts” for pollution, the highest level warning (2) ………. calls for emergency measures such as
closing schools (3) ………. restricting car use. Poor air quality is also having a significant
knock-on effect on (4) ………. country’s tourist trade.
2
Some businesses are (5) ………. advantage of the air pollution – food delivery services that meet
the needs of those staying indoors; bars which push (6) ………. air purifiers as a marketing tool
to get customers in; and beer (7) ………. gets cheaper as the air quality decreases. But these are
not long-term solutions.

According to Ma Jun, one of China’s (8) ………. prominent environmental voices, China has
reached its (9) ………. tipping point. “I think it’s time to change and balance the environment
and growth. If we don’t do that we’re going (10) ………. suffer a hard landing one day very
soon,” says Ma.

………. contribute to a thrilled customer experience and a harmonious workplace. They know
the behaviors that (3) ………. manager needs to stay away from to encourage (4) ……….
employees.

Managers who want to succeed understand (5) ………. they are the most significant factor in
whether employees (6) ………. motivated to want to show up for work. Helping employees feel
rewarded, recognized, and thanked is also key to (7) ………. effectively as a manager.

The (8) ………. important issue in management success, however, is being a person that others
want to follow. Every action you take during (9) ……….. career in an organization helps people

Unit 12: Competition

Six years after the release of the original iPhone, Apple no longer has the mobile marketplace to
itself. It has to square off against giants such as Samsung Electronics; previous mobile all-stars
Motorola and Nokia, which are now respectively part of Google and (soon) Microsoft; and a rash
of new rivals such as Xiaomi of China and Micromax of India that can undersell anybody.

The past 12 months have been unusually active at Apple. The company added the iPad Mini to
its lineup, renovated its top-of-the-line smartphone with the 5S, expanded the iPhone line with
the 5C, and released iOS 7, the most significant upgrade to its mobile operating system in years.
And it managed all that. It also reshuffled its executive ranks, showing talented-but-divisive iOS
chief Scott Forstall the door and splitting his responsibilities between Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief
designer, and Craig Federighi, who heads software at the company.
