What is a sentence? 什么是句子？

Can you identify which one is a sentence and which is not?

What is a sentence? 什么是句子？

• Definition: A sentence is a group of words expressing

a complete thought.

• It tells:
Who(What) is something.
Or Who(What) does something.
一个句子要能表达一个完整的thought, 谁是什么或者谁做了什么表达了一个完整的意思，只有谁或者只有做了什么不能
表达一个完整的意思，不能称之为一个句子，是语法错误（句子片段，fragment)
The two essential parts of a sentence.(Subject)
As we know, a sentence tells
Who(What) is something.
Or Who(What) does something.

We call Who(What) the subject.

The subject of a sentence is the part about which something is being said.
Like flower, Bob, Marry on above example.
主语是在句子里要谈论的那部分，像前面提到的花，Bob, Marry.
The two essential parts of a sentence.(Predicate)

The above “is something” and “does something” is the predicate of a

sentence.
• The predicate of a sentence is the part which says something about the
subject.
• Bill told everyone about the wreck.

• Sue plays the piano well.
