As per ASME Code VIII Div.

1 for Boiler Pressure Vessel paragraph UG-127 section (7): “the bonnet of a
balancing bellows or diaphragm type pressure relief valve shall be vented to prevent accumulation of
pressure in the bonnet.”

The Q68-PZV -6939AB are bellows type. (not applicable)

Para. 4.1.1.1: PZVs for vessels and piping with operating pressure exceeding 100 kPa (15 psig), shall
meet the relevant requirements of ASME SEC VIII

Para. 4.1.1.4: Design of steel flanged-ASME code stamped PZVs shall further be in compliance with
API STD 526.

For the required process conditions (very small flow), It seems that LESER do
not provide a standard PZV with orifice area smaller than "D" and that complies with API.
However, please note the attached calculation (ASME VIII) Flg RF (.5inch)" that I
obtained from LESER Software, if I choose ASME SEC VIII as the governing standard, I
am able to select a PZV with the following characteristics:

1- Required orifice area: 0.005 sq.in

2- Selected orifice area: 0.55*D = 0.55*0.110 = 0.0605 sq.in

5- Required massflow: 165.239 lb/h;

4- Certified massflow: 6986.228 lb/h; Capacity exceed = 6986.228/165.239*100% =

4127.96%

3- Screwed connections

4- Inlet ½”; flanged 300#; RF

5- Outlet ½”; flanged 150#; RF

6- Calculated as per ASME SEC VIII

Paragraph 7.4.4c. of PP119001 request that PZV of minimum size ¾ ” shall be flanged.
The other spec (PP118147) allows threaded connection for size 3/4".

Please note that the provided PZV calculation from (PSV) shows that the required
orifice area is 2.985 sq.mm = 0.005 sq.in however the data sheet shows that the
required orifice area is 0.002 sq.in. This is not a big issue as they are selecting a orifice
area of 0.098 sq.in but it shows that they have some errors in the calculation shown on
the data sheet.

Also please see the note #12 on the data sheet for PZV -6939A/B that VME indicated
that the PZVs “were not selected to ASME / API statutory requirement and the
selected orifice as per lesser is 0.18 x D”. That means = 0.019, this is contradicting
the selected orifice area = 0.098 shown on the data sheet.

As per the above explanation, I can conclude that the valve offered by LESER is custom
made or VME forged all the results on the data sheet.
