Executive Summary

The Establishment of a Agro-Industrial Laboratory in Faculty of

Engineering is an educational project involve establishing an agro industrial
laboratory from scratch. The project will be implemented on Faculty of
Engineering of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University,
Dinajpur.

The laboratory will be establish in a room of a building of the faculty. Some

structural development will be needed to make secure the laboratory, proper
placement of laboratory equipment, air-conditioning and effective ventilation
of the laboratory for maintaining healthy environment for students or any
other worker. The project involve buying necessary equipment for the
enrichment of the laboratory related the study of agro based industries.
Aseptic conditions for the machinery and work bench will be placed in required
places, proper cleaning measurements will be also involve in this project.

Aim of the Project

The project being proposed aims to make easier the study of agro
industry based operations. The laboratory will assists students of the faculty to
test different agro based products, implementation of their theoretical
knowledge, making new products, introducing with new machineries etc. The
students of other faculty can also use the laboratory for related purposes.
Students of post-graduation and teachers of the university can continue their
further research in related field by using proper equipment and technical
supports from the laboratory. The laboratory will help the teachers in many
ways to teach their students precisely. Students will benefited and can learn
the practical ways of operating different critical machineries and difficult
operations easily. The faculty can produce some effective man power and
assets for our country by providing access to the practical knowledge that only
can be only gained by using developed technology, practicing in an improved
laboratory.

Background Information

Faculty of Engineering of HSTU started journey in 2004.

There are 600 students studying in under graduation degrees these are Food
and Process Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture, and different
post-graduation degrees like Food Processing and Preservation, Food
Engineering and Technology, Food Science and Nutrition are also provided
under the faculty.
There are 50 Teachers teaching different subjects.
The faculty have already managed to establish three laboratories of food
processing, food microbiology and agricultural engineering. There is no
laboratory of industrial technology established yet. For better and improved
study in different aspects another laboratory is needed. There is no alternative
way we can think of rather than making a new one.

Problem Analysis

The beneficiaries of the projects are in dire need to establish an agro-

industrial laboratory for the improvement of study, but the university could
not afford the cost of the inputs. Inputs involve laboratory structural
development, buying equipment and machineries, introducing modern
technology in the laboratory etc.
Description of Project:

I. Project Scope

This project will be implemented by Faculty of Engineering of

HSTU. The project aims to establish an agro-industrial laboratory with
necessary equipment, machineries and with different facilities.

The project will promote improvement on the ways of learning and

teaching for students and teachers.

Specifically, the project will assists 600 students and teachers to:
a) Access improved practical knowledge in agro base study.

b) Gain access to enhance their knowledge with different equipment.

c) Adopt appropriate agro-industrial machinery.

d) Access credit to learn basic operation of industrial works.

e) Enhance their quality of working with agro based products.

f) Access to relevant information about industries, researches,

technology.

II. Indirect Project Beneficiaries

Other students from other faculties, scientists from different part
of our country, different industrial quality controllers can use the
laboratory and can be indirectly benefitted.

III. Project Area

The project implanted area will be the faculty of engineering of

HSTU located in Dinajpur to the northern part of Bangladesh, about 350
km away from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The university have
3500 students studying in different degrees and 200 teachers teaching
different subjects. Per year 1400 new students admitted to the
university.
