GOAL

The control budget name must adhere to the Essbase naming conventions to avoid cube processing failures. The
budgetary control Essbase cube stores the budgetary control balances by control budget, budget period, and budget
account. The following solution provides a comprehensive list of character and word limitations that apply to Essbase.

SOLUTION

Consider the following restricted characters and word limitations when assigning a control budget name in the Manage
Control Budgets page.

Restricted Characters

The following list of characters cannot be used in dimension, member, or alias names. Do not place spaces at the
beginning or end of names. Essbase is not case sensitive and ignores spaces.

Do not use these types of words as dimension or member names:

• Calculation script commands, operators, and keywords
• Report writer commands
• Function names and function arguments
• Names of other dimensions and members (unless the member is shared)
• Generation names, level names, and aliases in the database
• Any of these words in the table below:
