Question

In every country in the world, the protection of employees against any form of discrimination
is a core practice as many nations have put in place legislations that aim at achieving this
objective. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of the Tripartite Alliance on Fair and
Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) as an alternative to legislation in preventing
discrimination in employment in Singapore.

Some possible approaches to extending your analysis include the following:

• Provide an overview to the protection of employees against any form of discrimination

using examples from countries and the recommendations of the International Labour
Organisation.
• Craft a thesis statement for this report – i.e., the position the group is adopting.
• Research on Singapore’s position on the setting up of TAFEP instead of having
legislation.
• Examine and analyse the tripartite views and actions on addressing discrimination in
Singapore.
• Provide informed insights on the pros and cons of having legislation versus having
tripartite guidelines.
• Conclusion reflecting your analysis and to affirm or debunk your thesis statement.
