QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMS:

1. What is the speed regulation of a motor?
2. How can the speed of a shunt motor be controlled? Explain in detail.
3. What is the practical difference between a separately excited and shunt DC motor?
4. What effect does armature reaction have on the torque-speed, characteristic of a shunt DC
motor? Can the effects of armature reaction be serious? What can be done to remedy
these problems?

Answers to Questions:
1.) It expresses how speed varies between no-load
and full load in the armature.
2.) Change its armature current by changing torque
speed
3.) At separately excited, the IA does not flow
through the field windings, since it is energized
from separate source.
4.) In shunt DC, speed does not vary when changing
load. The field winding must be wounded many
turns to increase flux.
Interpretation of Results
Objective: To investigate the Relationship between the
speed, the output power and the efficiency of a DC
shunt motor and the torque produced by the motor.

 When the torque is increased, the speed is reduced.

 The armature current increased.

 The efficiency has varying values

 This shows that the shunt motor is not a good

source of power.

Conclusion
Objective: To investigate the Relationship between the
speed, the output power and the efficiency of a DC
shunt motor and the torque produced by the motor.

 The efficiency increases in a certain value or torque

when it is increased

 There is a point where the efficiency is decreasing

even though the torque is still increasing.
