Analysis deviation Dimensions of Half-Ball Air Vent Products

Using the SPIF (Single Point Incremental Forming) Method

In the manufacturing industry manufacturing products in a conventional way such as press tool is very common in the industry because it h
as several advantages such as fast cycle times, good accuracy, and can form in complex shapes. However, this method also has a loss of exp
ensive tool and equipment costs, materials that are usually worn out quickly and good materials that are expensive and require time to make,
also require good worker skills
in the manufacturing process. the more time passes new methods began to be developed to optimize the manufacture of a product and one of
them is by forming a deep drawing product called an incremental sheet metal forming (ISMF). this method is used for products with limited qua
ntities and is still not used in the industry in Indonesia because this method has not been much studied and the quality has not been proven. T
here are two types of processes in carrying out this method, namely single point incremental forming (SPIF) and two point incremental forming
(TPIF). The process is very flexible and does not require expensive tools

In this paper, a deep drawing product will be made using 6111 Aluminum material with a thickness of 1 mm by the method of single point in
cremental forming (SPIF), then the process of taking 3D data resulting from the SPIF process using a 3D machine
Scanning and measuring deviations by the method of comparison is to compare
between products resulting from the SPIF process and the generic 3D CAD model using
GeoMagic Qualify 2013 software, the final result of this paper is to get data
product deviations from SPIF results
Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) gives a new im The main advantages of the SPIF Process are [16]:
portant contribute to incremental forming processes like • Production of parts directly from the CAD file;
Spinning and stretch expanding which is the capability of • Inexistence of positive or negative die;
produce non-axisymmetric parts. • Design changes can be easily and quickly performed;
The blank sheet is clamped in a universal stationary bla • Increase of material formability;
nk holder and the forming tool describes the contour of t • Can be performed in a conventional CNC machine;
he desired geometry controlled by a regular CNC machi • Due to the incremental nature of the process, forces are small;
ne • Dimension of parts are only limited by the machine tool;
• Good surface finish quality can be achieved.

The main disadvantages of the SPIF Process are:

• Longer forming time compared with conventional Deep Drawing
Process;
• Limited to small size production batches;
• The forming of right angles must be achieved by multi-stage strategies;
• Springback occurs, although it can be minimized using some correction
algorithms;
• Less geometry accuracy, particularly in convex radii and bending edges
