National Postal Worker Day: 1st July
 National Postal Worker Day is celebrated
on 1 July to recognise postal workers
across the globe.
 The day encourages us to show our
appreciation for the person who provides
postal services.
 In 1997 a Seattle-area postal carrier
established National Postal Worker Day to
honour fellow employees.
 And since then it is celebrated every year
on 1st July.
Legendary comedian Carl Reiner passed away
 Carl Reiner, the writer, producer, director
and actor passed away in June 2020.
 Reiner, the father of filmmaker Rob
Reiner, was the winner of nine Emmy
awards, including five for “The Dick Van
Dyke Show.”
 His most popular films as a director
included “Oh God,” starring George
Burns, in 1977; “The Jerk,” with Steve
Martin, in 1979; and “All of Me,” with
Martin and Lily Tomlin, in 1984.
Shashank Manohar quits as ICC Chairman
 India’s Shashank Manohar stepped down
as International Cricket Council (ICC)
chairman, one week before the election
process for his successor is announced.

 Deputy chairman Imran Khwaja, former
President of Singapore Cricket
Association, will be the interim head.
 Manohar was appointed the first
independent ICC chairman in May 2016.
"Dream Kerala project" announced
 Kerala has announced "Dream Kerala
project" for the rehabilitation of the
Keralites returning from abroad and for
the overall development of the State.
 The State's economy is badly hit with
many non-resident Keralites losing their
job amid COVID crisis.
 The project aims, not only, the
rehabilitation of returnees but also, using
their skill and knowledge for reviving the
State.
UP govt to launch a special campaign
 UP Government launched a special
campaign on 2 July 2020 for door to door
medical screening in all districts of
Meerut division which are having large
numbers of Corona positive patients.
 This kind of campaign will soon be
launched in other parts of the state also.
 The State Government is also going to
establish a big testing lab in Ghaziabad
district for augmentation of COVID
testing.
Two renowned Indian-Americans honoured
 In the United States, two renowned
Indian-Americans are among the 38
immigrants honoured by a prestigious
American foundation ahead of US
Independence Day commemoration 2020.
 Pulitzer Prize-winning author and
oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee and
Professor of Economics at Harvard
University Raj Chetty have been named
by the Carnegie Corporation of New York
as '2020 Great Immigrants' honorees.
Nagaland declared as disturbed
 The Centre has declared the entire
Nagaland as a disturbed area for a further
period of six months till December-end,
2020.
 The area comprising the whole Nagaland
is in such a disturbed and dangerous
condition that the use of armed forces in
aid of the civil power is necessary.
 It has been declared disturbed for 6
months with effect from 30 June 2020.
SERB launched ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ scheme
 The Science and Engineering Research
Board has launched a new scheme called
‘Accelerate Vigyan’.
 It will provide a single platform for
research internships, capacity building
programs and workshops across the
country.
 The objective of this scheme is to
encourage high-end scientific research and
prepare scientific manpower, which can
lead towards research careers and
knowledge-based economy.
Nine individuals declared as terrorists
 Home Ministry has declared nine
individuals as designated terrorists under

provisions of Unlawful Activities
(Prevention) Act.
 They include Wadhwa Singh Babbar,
Lakhbir Singh, and Ranjeet Singh.
 These individuals are involved in various
acts of terrorism from across the border
and from foreign soil.
 They are trying to revive militancy in
Punjab through their anti-national
activities.
Indra Mani: Permanent Representative to UN
 Senior diplomat Indra Mani Pandey has
been appointed as the next Ambassador
and Permanent Representative of India to
the United Nations and other International
Organisations in Geneva.
 Mr Pandey, a 1990 batch IFS officer, is
presently additional secretary in the
External Affairs Ministry.
 He is expected to take up the assignment
shortly.
Govt launched Special Liquidity Scheme
 The Union Govt has launched the Special
Liquidity Scheme of Rs 30,000 cr to
improve the liquidity position for Non-
Banking Finance Companies- NBFCs and
Housing Finance Companies- HFCs.
 The scheme was launched on 1 July
2020 through a Special Purpose Vehicle in
the form of SLS Trust set up by SBI
Capital Markets Limited (SBICAP).
 Reserve Bank of India will provide funds
for the Scheme.
SDMC signed MoU to generate power
 The South Delhi Municipal Corporation
(SDMC) has signed a MoU with Indian
Oil and National Thermal Power
Corporation (NTPC).
 It will set up a pilot project for ‘Waste to
Wealth Plant’ at its Okhla landfill site.
  Under this project, the plant will process
50 tonnes per day of Refused Derived
Fuel (RDF) segregated from municipal
solid waste to produce Syn Gas.
Salma Lakhani: Lieutenant Governor of
Alberta
 Salma Lakhani has made history upon her
appointment as the Lieutenant Governor
of the province of Alberta.
 She is the first-ever Muslim with roots in
the Indian subcontinent to occupy the post
in Canada.
 Her appointment was announced by
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
 A Lt Governor in Canada is the equivalent
of a Governor in India and is nominated
by the federal government.
HDFC Bank launched 'e-Kisaan Dhan’ app
 HDFC Bank has announced the launch of
‘e-Kisaan Dhan' app for farmers all over
India.
 Through this app the farmers will be able
to access a bouquet of services, both
banking and agriculture, through their
mobile phones.
 The app is a one-stop solution for all the
information needed on agriculture
practices by the farmers.
Karnataka govt launched a portal
 Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa has
launched ‘Skill Connect Forum’, a portal
that connects job seekers with employers
on a common platform.
 An unemployed person will be imparted a
skill and then enabled to get a job.
 Any individual can register on the portal
by uploading details of their qualification,
skill sets and other details.

Sanjay Dwivedi appointed IIMC Director
General
 Professor Sanjay Dwivedi has been
appointed the Director-General of the
Indian Institute of Mass Communication
(IIMC), Delhi.
 Dwivedi is at present Registrar of
Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University
of Journalism and Communication,
Bhopal.
 The Appointments Committee of the
Cabinet has approved his appointment as
the DG, IIMC on direct recruitment basis
for a period of three years.
IIT Gandhinagar developed AI based tool
 Researchers at IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN)
have developed an Artificial Intelligence
(AI)-based deep learning tool for detection
of COVID-19 from Chest X-ray images.
 This online tool indicates the probability if
a person is infected with COVID-19,
which can be used for quick preliminary
diagnosis before the medical test.
 The tool is developed by Kushpal Singh
Yadav (PI).
June GST collections at Rs 90,917 crore
 GST revenue collection in June 2020
stood at Rs 90,917 crore, up from Rs
62,009 crore mopped up in May and Rs
32,294 crore in April.
 Of this, CGST is Rs 18,980 crore, SGST
is Rs 23,970 crore, IGST is Rs 40,302
crore and Cess is Rs 7,665 crore.
 Returns of the month of April, March as
well as February got filed during June
2020.
Jadeja: India’s most valuable Test player
  Ravindra Jadeja has been named as  He has played in 49 Tests since making
India’s most valuable Test player in the his debut in 2012, scoring 1,869 runs with
21st century by the Wisden magazine. one century and 14 fifties to his name.
 With an MVP rating of 97.3, he was also
rated as the second-most valuable Test
player worldwide, behind Sri Lanka
legend Muttiah Muralitharan.
