Hovid History

Hovid Berhad is a local pharmaceutical company which started on the 1940’s. Af first, it was
operated as a Chinese herbal Tea company with commercial and production operations.The first
founder of the company was Mr. Ho Kai Cheong. Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea, a Chinese herbal tea
made up of 24 herbs was the first product launched by Hovid. Mr.Ho Kai Cheong formulated and
started to sell boiled herbal teas in fronf of his shop and residence. It was famous after world War
II as an alternative to western medicines as people seek for traditional way for recovery. In the
1970’s, Mr. David Ho Sue San, the eldest son of Mr.Ho pursued his pharmacy degree in new
Zealand. Mr. David Ho worked as research pharmacist for 2 years in the United Kingdom after
graduating. In the 1980’s, he returned to Malaysia and took over his father’s business. He started
to transform the business from traditional medicine to more modern business model which
includes the repackaging and remarketing of herbal teas. He also started to focus towards
pharmaceutical solutions such as Over0the counter (OTC) products. It took 10 years of hardwork
for hovid to develop their own formulations before starting its manufacturing, marketing, sales
and distribution in Malaysia. It can be said that Mr.David Ho was the founder of hovid Berhad
which was into pharmaceutical line. Hovid manufactures generic drugs from various class of drugs
such as antihistamines, antibiotics, analgesics, antidiabetics, antihypertensives and many more.
Hovid also produces dietery supplements and disinfectants such as hand sanitizer. There are more
than 300 Hovid’s products available in the market in different dosage forms. Hovid’s products are
marketed im more than 50 countries including Nigeria, United Kingdom, Cambodia, Hong Kong,
Ghana, Canada, Singapore, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Philippines.
