FINAL TASK FOR UNIT 5:

SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This unit assignment consists of doing the tasks presented below. This assignment
must be done individually. It must be submitted according to the official submission
procedure described in the web page where this file was downloaded. Assignments
send directly to the tutor by email will not be corrected. The work must fulfil the
following conditions:

- Length: between 1 and 2 pages (without including cover, index or appendices –if
there are any–). Any assignment that exceeds or does not reach the length will be
considered failed.
- Type of font: Arial or Times New Roman.
- Size: 11.
- Line height: 1.5.
- Alignment: Justified.
- Margins: 2.5 above and down, left and right 3 (usual default configuration).

The assignment has to be done in this Word document. Please, do not write the
answers in bold, in order to simplify the distinction between them and the activities’
statements. On the other hand, the assignment must still fulfil the rules of presentation
and edition, and follow the rubric for quoting and making bibliographical in the Study
Guide.

It is very important to read the assessment criteria, which can be found in the Study
Guide. This final task for Unit 5 will evaluate the conditions of presentation presented
below, the assessment criteria and, specially, the accomplishment of the objectives of
this unit:

 To lay the foundations for the correct use of typographic and punctuation signs.
 Raise awareness about the need to use the vast body of tools effectively in the
development of academic writing in English, in order to succeed in the proper
and accurate delivery of the intended written discourse.

The tasks which do not fulfil the terms of submission will not be corrected.
In addition, the participation in the additional tasks is mandatory and it is part of the
final mark.

Task:

ACTIVITY 1: NOTICING MISTAKES

In the activity done in the forum for this unit, the students have analysed some
resources to improve the building of sentences and paragraphs. Copy bellow all the
texts your colleges and you have posted for the activity (max. 5 texts), underline their
mistakes and point out why they are mistakes.

ACTIVITY 2: CORRECTING SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS

Now, provide a correct version of the texts you’ve analysed above.
