The chart below shows world energy consumption from 1965 to 2013.

The line graph gives the information about the how much of oil, coal, natural gas, hydro and other
renewable resources consumed over a 49 year period ( 1965-2013). Units are measured in billion metric
tons of oil equivalent.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that consumption of world energy increased dramatically. Furthermore,
there was a considerable rise in oil, coal and natural gas consumption, while hydro and other renewable
resources consumption went up gradually.

On the one hand, oil, gas and natural consumption followed the same pattern whereas consumption of
oil and coal grew sharply which stood at more or less 1.5 billion metric tons, but rose to about 4 billion
metric tons. Likewise, natural gas consumption increased significantly from just over 0.5 billion metric
tons to just above 3 billion metric tons.

On the other hand, hydro consumption grew at a slow pace which stood at just under 0.5 billion metric
tons, but had risen just under 1 billion metric tons. In addition, consumption ofother renewable
resources remained stable between 1965 and 1999, but after that went up gradually just below 0.5
billion metric tons.
