Energy statement of purpose

Background

With this letter, I am applying for a position in the postgraduate program in Renewable
Energy, offered by American University Beirut specially Master-card foundation. With
my current experience as an Energy Research professional, I wish to enlarge my
technical knowledge of energy systems in general and turn my focus towards
development and utilization of renewable energy resources. By reading the course
curriculum available online, I have found that the subject material covered will best suit
my career goals. Lastly, the prospect of participating in a mandatory exchange program
is an excellent way to observe different energy systems, as well as to build upon my
cultural awareness.

I have been successfully performing Energy related jobs in a number of positions over
the last 1 year. I have recently worked as Somaliland power energy years where I
gained all the things needed to maintain sector Solar Energy transmission to handle
traditional power transmission lines ., most of my experience I focus technology and
generations. I have a bachelor’s degree of Electronic and communication engineering
and computer science plus relevant trainings and related Diplomas will make me the
ideal candidate for this post.

Why I am interested in the Masters In Energy.

I took One month Alternative energy boot-cam funded by United nations department of
development we discuss different areas that alternating traditional systems such as
Biogas, Solar energy, Modern Green stoves, Electric stoves to handle deforestation and
caused by cutting trees and well climate.

After obtaining a master’s degree abroad I would highly benefit from this master
program as international experience will provide an opportunity to work for big
international companies, which are highly involve in energy sector of the country.
During my study in AUB, I would like to get an internship in this or at least some other
similar enterprises.

I intend to contribute in my country when I reach this position:-

Socially : I will advice to make awareness for rural and urban areas using for new
modern energy systems to minimize reduce the degradation of plants and benefit from
the sun's energy in our country because Somalia gets on average 2,900 to 3,100 hours
per year of sunlight. It has one of the highest daily averages of total solar radiation in
the world. The yearly average solar radiation for Hargeisa is 6.4 kWh/m2/ day.
Furthermore, the average yearly temperature in the country is 27 °C, a reasonable
temperature to permit a satisfactory operation life of solar PV (photovoltaic) Systems.
Politically : I will make advice and contribute ministry of energy and water to improve
and design new strategically method implementing for new competitive companies that
handle for high cost of electricity in our country to reduce cost because Somalia and it is
one of most expensive electricity bills although African countries .
Technically: Less than 25 per cent of all Somalis have access to electricity. Electricity
accessing large cities like Mogadishu and Hargeisa has been estimated at 60 per cent
and 68 per cent respectively. In smaller cities, electricity access drops to 23 per
cent of the population and electricity in rural areas is nearly non-existent.
The postgraduate renewable energy program on AUB will allow me to broaden
knowledge of energy technology. Therefore, studying at this particular program has a
great importance to me, because it is an important step in achieving my professional
goal: working on projects as a technical consultant for renewable energy sources and I
write in research areas of climate change and deforestation, I did a Ms degree in
Energy technology, which is an economically important area for my country and wider
region in general. By the graduation, I was able to understand the dynamic nature.
I consider this as an enriching experience both personally and professionally which has
incented me to further develop my skills and knowledge. I believe that with my work and
studies I have a solid foundation, but through the Master’s program I hope to develop
expertise and boost my career prospects.
