A Note from Mrs. Flowers

Hello families! Welcome to First Grade! I cannot believe we are finally back at school. In some ways, I feel like
these past six months of being out of school have flown by, but sometimes it has also felt like it would never
end. Needless to say, I am so excited to be at Summit Drive this year teaching your kids! This year is going to
look different, but I am confident we will make it a fun and memorable. Please bear with me this year,
especially during the first few weeks, as I know there will be kinks to work out as I strive to provide quality
learning assignments both virtually and face to face for my class. Please feel free to contact me with
questions or feedback at any time.

Curriculum Highlights Save the Date

At school this week, your child will be completing Monday, August 24th: First day of school for all

Office Hour
I will be logging in to our Google Meet link (bookmarked
on your child’s Chromebook) during my planning period
Monday-Thursday from 12:30 until 12:55ish. If you have
a question or need help with an eLearning assignment,
this time is set aside to help you. Because I will have
students with me all day, my availability to help with
eLearning will be limited to this time and after school.

This year, I will be utilizing a parent-teacher
communication app called “Remind.” This is a free,
secure app that can be downloaded to any iPhone or
Android device. The app will allow me to communicate
easily with you via secured text-messaging. Your
personal contact information is not visible to me or the
school. This is by far the easiest way to communicate
with me, especially if you have time sensitive
information to relay to me such as a transportation
change for your child. Signing up for my messages on

In these unprecedented times, I recognize the potential
value of a contact document for my 1st grade parents.
I wanted to provide you all with an opportunity to
share your contact information with each other. There
is NO pressure to share your information with anyone.

When your child is at home completing eLearning
activities, you are free to set your own schedule
for your child based on what is best for your
family. I won’t be checking for completed work until
the following day after an activity is assigned
because I understand that some families might not
get the chance to help their child with eLearning
assignments until the evening.
