Thousands of years ago, the people who lived in the Andes mountains of south America were poor and miserable.
17 They had no art and no skills to make tools. Worst of all, the tribes could not live in peace, and the people were
always war from their home in the sky, the sun god and the moon goddess and watched. They felt sorry for these
miserable people. “These people are grateful to us for the light we give then”, said the sun god. “Let us send our
son and daughter to each them to live better. Then they can be happy. The mom goddess agreed, but she was
sad. The sun and daughter were sad to leave their home too, but they were proud that they could help the people
of the earth. They went down to earth to a lake and stayed there until there were old enough to help the people.
Then, the sun´s daughter and the moon´s son called the people and they came to lake to hear him. “My sister
and I are children of the sun and the moon, and we have to come help you”, he declared. “You are poor and
miserable because you are always fighting each other. You do not think, so you are destroying the earth. What
would happen if the sun and moon fought? They would destroy themselves and you, too. We will teach you to live
peace like our father and mother”. The people were very grateful that the sun and moon sent their children to
help them, and they asked the children to be their king and queen. The people learned to weave cloth and to
build houses. And most importantly, they learned to live in peace, and make one nation. The called themselves
the Incas meaning “King´s tribe” and for a long time they were a very great people.
