AGGREGATE FLOOR SURFACING

PART I - GENERAL
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Work of this Section shall be governed by the Contract Documents. Provide


materials, labor equipment and services necessary to furnish, deliver and install all
work of this Section as shown on the Drawings, as specified herein, and/or as
specified by job conditions.

1.2 SECTION INCLUDES

A. (Epoxy) binder matrix.

B. Aggregate surfacing.

C. Clear protective overcoat.

1.3 SUBMITALS

A. Submit shop drawings indicating dimensions, locations of edging and panel


layout.

B. Submit product data for matrix materials, including their physical and
performance characteristics.

C. Submit manufacturer's installation instructions.

1.4 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA

A. Submit maintenance data.

B. Include cleaning requirements, stain and graffiti removal, and rejuvenation of top
coat procedures.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing products of this Section


with minimum three years experience.

B. Applicator: Company specializing in applying aggregate surface coatings, with 3


years documented experience.

1.6 FIELD SAMPLES

A. Provide one (1) field sample panel, 900 x 900 mm. illustrating applied aggregate
in the selected color.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver products to site. Store and protect products.
1.8 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Provide temporary enclosures, heat, and ventilation in areas where work is being
performed to allow work to cure.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIALS
A. Cementitious: Binder Matrix:" Portland cement modified with acrylic polymers,
sand and fine mineral colored aggregate.
B. Aggregate Surfacing: Smooth surface fine mineral colored aggregate.
C. Overcoat: Clear, breathable non-yellowing as recommended by manufacturer.
2.2 COLORS
A. Matrix Binder: color as selected.
B. Aggregate: color range as selected from standard color chart.

PART3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that substrate is ready to receive work and that surface is clean. dry. and
free of substances which could affect bonding.
B. Do not begin work until concrete substrate has cured 28 days minimum, and
measured moisture content is not greater than 16 percent.
C. Measure concrete surface for negative alkalinity with litmus paper test.
3.2 PROTECTION
A. Protect elements surrounding the work of this Section from damage or
disfiguration.

3.3 PREPARATION

A. Clean substrate surfaces of foreign matter.


B. Patch concrete substrate with filler to produce smooth, even surface.
C. Mask adjacent surfaces not designated to receive coating.
D. Prepare surfaces and prime as directed by manufacturer's instructions.

3.4 APPLICATION

A. Apply binder to minimum thickness of 4 mm.


B. Spray apply aggregate evenly, embedding into matrix to insure bond. Allow
binder to set.
C. Vacuum clean surface and spray apply overcoat.

3.5 TOLERANCES

A. Maximum Variation from Flat Surface: 3 mm.

3.6 CLEANING

A. Clean surfaces of overspread or splatter and excess material.
