4. Explain how to put out a Fire
5. Construct two (2) style styles of Campfires
How about this one?
Give me the uses of
the campfire based
on the pictures
presented.
Components of a Perfect Fire
 The basic fire
Triangle consists of
three necessities.
 All three are needed
to keep a fire going
 HEAT
 FUEL
 OXYGEN
Oxygen: It is needed for chemical reaction of
combustion. Oxygen to a campfire can be increased
by spreading the fuel apart a little by little, or by
blowing on it. Oxygen can be suppressed by
smoothering it with dirt or sand.
Heat: Heat breaks larger molecules to smaller
molecules so that it can react with oxygen in a
process called “Pyrolisis”. Smaller pieces of tinders or
kindling will heat more easily than larger pieces. Heat
can be suppressed with dirt or water or by spreading
the fuel apart.
Fuel: Fuel is also required to have a fire. Look for fuel
that is dry enough and small enough to be heated
easily. Larger pieces of wood can be added as fire
grow.

Unhibited Chain Reaction

With fuel to burn, adequate heat to break down the
molecule chains, and oxygen for combustion, a fire
will sustain itself with unhibited chain reaction until it
runs out of fuel or any other factors in the fire triangle.
 Tinder-
 bark, grasses, moss, newspaper
 Kindling-
 small sticks that will burn quickly. They will
fuel the larger fuel wood. No bigger than 1”
in diameter
 Fuel Wood-
 larger wood or split logs about 1’ – 2’ in
length
Why do We Need Fire?

 Light

 Bug Repellant

 Keeps Predators Away

Log Cabin / Criss-Cross Style Campfire
How to build a fire?
 Make a circle out of stones and pebbles so
that the fire will not run and scatter around.
 Make a small campfire using the tinder or
small twigs.
 Light it up using a match or any heat at the
center of twigs or tinders
tinders..
 Add kindling or fuel woods, one after the
other.
How to put out a Fire?
 Water/Snow

 Dirt
 Spread apart the Logs

 If the ground/ashes feel hot

to touch, the fire is not out!
 If the ground/ashes feel
cold to touch, the fire is out!

Outside Cooking Rules:
1. Nothing goes into the campfire pit except paper!
2. Put all garbage into the garbage can (not on the
ground or fire pit)!
3. Wash and dry all dishes/utensils/tools and return
