~~Club Business and Info~~
President Brian noted the new Moraga
Rotary fundraiser, initially titled ‘Ribs for
Rotary’, and now called "Dinner with
Rotary" will be the subject of a Fund
Raising Committee meeting after today's
regular meeting. The date is set for
September 24 with spaghetti and meat
balls supplied by La Finestra. The goal
of the meeting will be to finish the menu
and work out the logistics for the event.
We want to use our club website to
advertise the event, to take orders and
also accept payments. This dinner may
become a model for future such events
at various times during the year and
augment our big “Nite at the Races” in
March, 2021.

Brian mentioned that Hays Englehardt is
the new Assistant District Governor for
the FAB 5 which will be undertaking a
media outreach for Rotary..
Rich Render reported that E-Waste will
be held on September 19.
Local Odyssey of the Mind teams are
organizing now for this future virtual
competition.

The Club Mystery Box
President Brian showed the mystery
box wrapped in blue paper. He had a
new. hint that it had two pieces. The first
hints were “the item is worth about $25"
and was "donated by Cliff Dochterman”.
Next hint: It is not a Rotary item.

about 10 inches by 10 inches.
~~Program~
Today's speaker was Dave
Kemnitz of Cars 2nd Chance
(formerly Clunkers for Charity).
The name was changed to
encourage the donation of
repairable and resalable cars.
Dave is a member of the Clayton
Valley Sunrise Rotary Club which
benefits from the program and
administers the program with his
auto repair and sales company. .
The donating charity gets 50% of
the net sale proceeds and Clayton
Valley Sunrise gets 50%. The
program has existed since 2006.
Administrative costs are very small.
Motorcycle and boats can also be
donated.
Dave's company handles all the
DMV and tax records.

Vehicles are either sold at Dave's
lot or more commonly at auction
houses. which charge $160 to offer
the vehicle on four auction dates.
True clunkers do not generate
significantly more than the auction
fee , the main reason for the
program name change.
Repairable vehicles can generate
thousands of dollars for the
charities. Roger Gregory and Diane
Wilson among others have donated
vehicles which brought substantial
money to the our club. Moraga
Rotary was one of the early Rotary
clubs to join this partnership with
Cars 2nd Chance
Current Dave and his club are
working with the Food Bank with a
goal of generating $100,000.
Brian South thanked Dave for his
presentation and told him he would
receive a certificate acknowledging
his presentation and a medical kit
would be donated to a Moraga
school in his name.
~~Final Words~~
Brian announced the new "end of
meeting game" called “Encore” had a
prize pot of $10. He showed four aces
from a deck of cards and pointed out
that there were four suits represented –
Diamond, Heart, Club and Spade. After
shuffling the cards Brian drew one. A
randomly drawn club member, Debbie
Koo, was called upon to identify which
suit the card represented. She guessed
“Diamonds" but the correct answer was
Spades". Next week the pot is $20.

Community Educational Partners and
Evie Michon be the Invocator.
The meeting was adjourned with a
ringing of the Moraga Rotary Bell and a
wish for a blessed week to all. See you
