April 16: Online Day 8

Do the best you can. Be flexible. Reach out if you need help. Remember I am
missing seeing you all on campus. We’ve got this.

Start of “Class” Announcements:

1. I hope that you all had a chance to rest and relax a bit this weekend. I have heard from
many of you that you are overwhelmed by the work coming from some classes right
now- so I hope that it gave you the chance to catch up and feel a bit more sane. Hang in
there- hard to believe but the semester is over in only 2 more weeks!

2. Next week, there will be no regularly scheduled “class”- but rather, you’ll be using the
time to work on your end of semester projects. The reason that I did this is that the
typical end of semeseter for ENV 200 features 3 classes that are focused on student
presentations. Since our final projects are going to work differently this year, you will
have two classes to research/check in with me/think and then you will spend the third
class watching/reading/responding to your classmates’ projects. Details about the
project and my expectations for it will be posted tomorrow (April 17) so that you have
the weekend to start your work if you would like to. If you want to meet with me at
any point to discuss ideas/brainstorm/ask questions, please do! I have added more
“office hours” to my advising sheet. You can sign up for a time here (and don’t forget,
you can always email me if these times don’t work):

“Deadlines” that are coming up:

1. The short eLearn quiz (similar to a reading quiz) based on the material from the
presentation today has been posted in today’s eLearn folder. Please complete it after
completing your work today. The “deadline” for this quiz is April 23.
2. Reminder: All work must be turned in by the final day of classes- April 29.

Things to do for class today:

1. In preparation for Earth week, today we were meant to have two guest speakers
visit us in class. Instead of hosting them in our class, I “interviewed” them via zoom
this week and have posted the video to our Panopto folder. Please watch it, being
sure to pause the video when directed to do so to watch a video.

The video that is referred to during the interview (the Avon plant video) can be
found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcdO9traZ-I&feature=youtu.be

2. After you finish watching the interview, please check out this other video that
Michelle sent to illustrate the process of turning plastic bottles into cloth. She
described this process in the interview, but thought it would be helpful for you to
see it:

3. Please note: Marc sent along some slides about Multiplast if you’re interested in
checking them out. They’re posted in our eLearn folder too.

4. When you’re done, take the 5 question eLearn quiz about the material that you
learned today. This “quiz” will just count as a small homework assignment. Same
rules for the quiz as always (2 tries, higher score gets recorded).
