Duel of the Fates

This piece is moderately difficult. I would say the most difficult part would be the high parts in the trombone 1 and
2 parts. It goes up to a high B flat in the first part and G in the second. The rhythm could also be a problem
switching between quarter to half note triplets and eighth to dotted half note in the trombone and baritone parts.
Other than that, the piece is pretty easy on a part to part basis. The Baritones have the same reoccurring rhythm
throughout the piece. I would expect this piece to be performed after or at the tail end of the football season based
upon the difficulty. I’m going to assume you don’t know what the curvy accent is so I’m going to explain it. It’s
called a fade out. It does exactly what you’d expect. In context of the piece, the player should fade the volume in
each sustain. The volume goes back to normal at the start of another sustain. I used that as opposed to a decrescendo
because it made the score much easier to read. From a conductor’s standpoint that is.
