Chloride Test, 0,25ppm with Wall Wash (WIW)

1. Mix a Chloride reference solution as follows:

a) Fill a measuring glass with 25ml, pure Methanol.


b) Mix with 75ml, Dl-Water.
c) Add 2.5 ml, Chloride reference standard solution.
d) Add 5 drops of Silver nitrate.
e) Shake. Don’t use your hand as a lid when you shake the mixture!

2. W/W and Chloride test procedure:

a) Wash carefully the funnel and collecting bottle with Methanol, incl. the lid of
the bottle.
b) Fill the spray bottle with pure Methanol.
c) Spray the Methanol on the tank bulkhead, several times, as high as possible.
Collect the liquid 1.5m below. After 4 to 5 testing spots on the bulkheads, the
spray bottle should be empty.
d) Fill a measuring glass with 25ml, of the W/W.
e) Mix with 75ml, Dl-Water.
f) Ad 5 drops of Silver nitrate.
g) Shake and let be for 10 min. compare with the reference solution.
h) If the W/W is as clear, or clearer, than the reference solution, then it’s OK. If
the W/W becomes milk-like, it contains too many Chlorides.
Note:

25ml, W/W and 2.5ml, Chloride Standard solution, translates to 0.25ppm.

30ml / 3ml = 0.30 ррm.

35ml / 3.5ml = 0.35 ppm.
